What I find very facepalmy (yep, I just made that into a word) is that sometimes the word for "hell" in the NT is ᾅδης (ades), which literally means HADES.
Yes Christians, it is good that alarm bells are going off in your head at this stage.

Do they have first class seats or is it all economy? What connecter flights are there and where do they fly out of? Can I get to Hell from TIA direct, for example, or maybe my local FBO..or do I have to get to a hub first? I bet they service Logan Int....
Again, I choose not hell..and not your god. Just accept it and move along. If you're insisting that I am forced to take one or the other you are assigning victim status, not I. Had a wonderful and refreshing convo with a muslim friend of mine last night on this topic btw. Basic gist of it was that any muslim who says that those who do not believe are going to hell is talking directly out of their ass (since none but Allah could know who is or isn't going to hell). I like that interpretation, as opposed to yours Drich. In that intepretation god is not bound by some magical agreement to leveraging his own divine abilities in service to your own fantasies about what should happen to others immortal souls.

Huh? You sound a tad hostile, I wasn't being rude to you. Are you trying to say that because it wasn't officially named in the bible it doesn't even exist, or was this whole debate about its 'official' name from the start? If it's a matter of name, then sure, it wasn't called 'hell' in the bible, but it clearly was what we now call hell.

What I am teaching is biblically based Christianity. Many 'Non-denominational' brands of Christianity ascribe to this type of teaching. However not all agree on every single aspect or interpertation the basis for all understanding comes from the bible. The church I affiliate with is Harvest bible Chapel. Alot of the teaching in the way of Hell are found in the doctrines of HBC. That said my personal experiences are my own.

Who said that i lived through anything. I was given an understanding when I A/S/K for God.

I'm sorry, that was to be directed at "catfish," not you Darkstar, forgive me for my error.
God loves those who believe and those who do not and the same goes for me, you have no choice in this matter. That puts the matter of total free will to rest.

To remind you of how vacuous your comments are, even in the face of accepting the vacuous god claim at face value.

Notice how it says the fiery furnace, and the lake of fire. This is not some generic fire, there is only one, and all of the unsaved are being thrown into it. The word 'hell' is not explicitly used, but it is clear that is what is meant.
Do you think they could have lied? Or are you supporting an "infallible" theory to debate against a Christian?

I've been saying this since I joined. It's good to see an atheist pick up on it. I find it ironic how they are inadvertantly supporting a Greek myth...

No, I don't believe that hell exists, or that these passages are telling the truth. But, one cannot deny hell and believe at the same time. Hell is there (for believers). So, they either have to admit that hell is in the bible, or that the bible is flawed. Why would a loving god send someone to hell for a finite crime?

Exactly my thoughts. I bet the apologetic line is that God was simply speaking in ways that would be understood at the time...
