What you label "human need" is in fact just a simple desire, and the cosmos cares not for what humans desire.
Even if the open windows of science at first make us shiver after the cozy indoor warmth of traditional humanizing myths, in the end the fresh air brings vigor, and the great spaces have a splendor of their own - Bertrand Russell

How is it against logic? Wouldn't it be against logic to assume that people who are already dead are somehow magically punished? What about criminals who are executed; they were not unpunished, but they still go to hell. What if it was a crime to breathe but no one was convicted for it. Would we all go to hell? What about Hitler?
I think you need to better clarify who goes to hell, and defend a justification for using infinite punishment for a finite crime.

Yes, food is a need. Without it, you will starve. Some people do starve. It doesn't follow that there is an afterlife, or that it will have food.
Even if justice is a need, it doesn't follow that it is fulfilled in an afterlife.
There's no reason to expect that we always get what we need or deserve. This life tells us different.

Unfortunately, the fantasy afterlife created by religion can do whatever it wants, so if it is said to give 'justice', it will do just that. Too bad biblical justice means hell for atheists, people of other religions, homosexuals, blasphemers of the holy spirit, etc.

I believe our actions influence the shape of our souls. Having a bad/ugly soul is bad enough, even if it is later reformed, because our actions are forever part of our identity.
I'm not to sure whether there will be punishment or not in the next world, but I side on the side of merciful compassion forgiveness and forbearance, but for certain, the punishment of torturing a person for eternity is just wrong.
Torture is just something you would not expect from a moral being.
The way I look it at, there is enough harm in a person whom choses to be evil, in his very evil existence, that I would side on a reformation plan at the end of it, because I feel if it was myself or my child or parent or sibling, I would want mercy and compassion to be the motive on their destiny.
