The film Religulous is a terrible film from the standpoint of a logical debate, but from the standpoint of a piece of entertainment, it's great for those that agree with it. I hate having to defend it, but here we go.

It's not about fanaticism. It's about religion. There are plenty of flavours of fanaticism the film didn't touch on because that wasn't the point.

To be fare to Bill Maher, he is a comedian. I loved that movie. It was funnier than shit. I want my sister and her Jesus freak kids to watch it. Sadly if they did they wouldn't get it.

Logical debate is not possible with believers. All that can be done is to expose their lunacy.

Maher did a great job of that.

No, it is quite possible.

I liked that film. I don't know why people debate with people of faith anyway. I think it's rude to debate with someone about their religion even if they ask for it. I respect someones choice as long as they don't try to preach at me or try to convert me. I'd never walk into a store knowing I was surrounded by Christians and strike up a debate. I wouldn't expect them to come to me and start trash talking my views. When that has happened I told them I wasn't interested in participating in the conversation and just turned away from them as I'd do anyone else who said something stupid to me.

I think the movie was funny and I like him a lot. I think he's a very brilliant man and I thought some of the peoples responses were funny but at the same time he didn't tell people exactly what their discussion would be about. The trucker church was the funniest because coming from the south I know exactly the type of people those guys were. I could tell that they were for the most part poor and uneducated and I thought it was mean to talk to them like that. Even though I don't believe in God doesn't mean I'm going to step on people who are good people just because they believe in a God.

In my books, that makes you a little nicer than some others here. You've been getting picked on a lot recently, but I hope you don't take it too hard. I too try to be nice to other people, but hey, that's just me.

Bullshit. We make a logical assertion and you clowns reply "goddidit."

That may be logic to you but its plain old bullshit to me.

RE: Prayer Death
If I may repeat. My problems with Mahers movie have nothing to do with my interpretation of the bible, or may faith at all for that matter. I liked it in the start, showing how bad religion can be. And yes, that makes it a film about fanaticism. If it was a film about religion, he should show the few southern baptists that have had a wonderfully fulfilled and healthy life alongside their christian beliefs.
He never showed one iota of positive information about religion. And please try not to respond with "there isn't any". And so, but forgoing any information about non-fanatical believers, the film becomes about fanatics, not believers. And so, for him to conclude that we must "wipe out religion" makes him a fanatic in his own right. And so, shooting himself in the foot. That is my beef, it seems pretty logical.

But if that is "godidit", then you can accuse all theists of saying so. I think that is a real, and at least thought out argument, not just fluff. But hey, think what you will.

Thanks,
-Pip

Well lets take the movie for what it is. Entertainment. I laughed my ass off when I saw it. I happened to agree with a lot of it, but that's my opinion.
