What do you do in Heaven?
#11
RE: What do you do in Heaven?
Christianity believes that Jesus will return and restore the Earth to what it was like before sin.

God will essentially bring heaven down to Earth and we will live our lives to his glory without sin. It will be like life now, businesses running, sports, entertainment.....but there will be no more sin or suffering and everyone will love the LORD and do all things to his glory. We will be able to worship God in his very near presence and do as He's created us to do for all eternity.

Interestingly there will no longer be marriages, we will be more like you would imagine angels to be....completely content in our singleness.

Isaiah 65:17–25 (NLT) — 17 “Look! I am creating new heavens and a new earth, and no one will even think about the old ones anymore. 18 Be glad; rejoice forever in my creation! And look! I will create Jerusalem as a place of happiness. Her people will be a source of joy. 19 I will rejoice over Jerusalem and delight in my people. And the sound of weeping and crying will be heard in it no more. 20 “No longer will babies die when only a few days old. No longer will adults die before they have lived a full life. No longer will people be considered old at one hundred! Only the cursed will die that young! 21 In those days people will live in the houses they build and eat the fruit of their own vineyards. 22 Unlike the past, invaders will not take their houses and confiscate their vineyards. For my people will live as long as trees, and my chosen ones will have time to enjoy their hard-won gains. 23 They will not work in vain, and their children will not be doomed to misfortune. For they are people blessed by the LORD, and their children, too, will be blessed. 24 I will answer them before they even call to me. While they are still talking about their needs, I will go ahead and answer their prayers! 25 The wolf and the lamb will feed together. The lion will eat hay like a cow. But the snakes will eat dust. In those days no one will be hurt or destroyed on my holy mountain. I, the LORD, have spoken!”

Revelation 21:2–7 (NLT) — 2 And I saw the holy city, the new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven like a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. 3 I heard a loud shout from the throne, saying, “Look, God’s home is now among his people! He will live with them, and they will be his people. God himself will be with them. 4 He will wipe every tear from their eyes, and there will be no more death or sorrow or crying or pain. All these things are gone forever.” 5 And the one sitting on the throne said, “Look, I am making everything new!” And then he said to me, “Write this down, for what I tell you is trustworthy and true.” 6 And he also said, “It is finished! I am the Alpha and the Omega—the Beginning and the End. To all who are thirsty I will give freely from the springs of the water of life. 7 All who are victorious will inherit all these blessings, and I will be their God, and they will be my children.

We're not told much about it. My pastor speculates that some of us will be explorers, and that's part of the reason god made the universe so big (it will be replaced, presumably with something as big or bigger). Of course that would only be for those interested in doing it.

Re: boredom, what are all the new things in this life? I'm not seeing much new, yet I still enjoy it. The things that are new, such as music, books, inventions, etc., do not need to go away in heaven.

People will likely have work of some sort. Note that Adam, even before the fall, was to tend the garden.

Basically, what they are saying is that if their heaven existed they would be living the lifestyle of white South Africans in the fifties. Their whole lifestyle would be based of the suffering of others, and they would be happy because they had no knowledge of it. Scum.

Which would be what, precisely? Lions and lambs sleeping peacefully together. Let's all hold hands and skip...... Jerkoff

I love this little tidbit btw, we see the fantasy process at work. Just like today..minus all the "bad stuff". LOL. Why not "just like the paleolithic, minus all the bad stuff".....or "just like 2k years from now, minus all the bad stuff."? I don't recall business, sports, or entertainment as being part of gods plan...and I'm pretty sure that you could dredge up examples of fervently religious people who believe that each of these things is the veritable spawn of the serpent.....but you think that it's all swell..and I get that.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

RE: What do you do in Heaven?
If God is really omnipotent then what was the point in restoring it to how it was before sin? Why not just make sin impossible in the first place?

I know, I know, the pathetic "free will" argument, well, even if such "free will" was possible, it's naturally good to make terrible things impossible or at least try and prevent them. So, to simply allow badness/evil/disaster because it's "free will" is not a good argument.

Do we allow criminals to do what they like because its their "free will"? Fuck no, we try prevention/detainment/punishment/rehabilitation etc. Not only is "free will" absurd but it's a massive cop-out to the immorality of an omnipotent God allowing the possibility for humans to commit evil. If he's omnipotent and all-loving, how does that make sense?

Read Romans 9 for crying out loud.

The "Free will" argument is pathetic, it's a cop-out: Allowing suffering and evil to exist when you're omnipotent demonstrates that you're not omnibenevolent. If your omnibenevolence cannot exist without you allowing suffering and evil to exist then you are not omnipotent.

I don't understand your "POE" comment. I'm not a poe, nor am I aware that I am addressing one.

No; you know what is pathetic, someone who thinks torture for all eternity is is good morality. Don't try to take the high ground christian, your philosophy is of the lowest order imaginable.

Christian: But that's god's law, not mine. I just follow it.

Atheist: the god that doesn't exist?

Christian: no, he's exists.

Atheist: Are you sure you're not deluded about that?

Well, you can continue the conversation from here...

The "following orders" defense is DOA, btw.
