Fox News Again

RE: Fox News Again
Mostly because it stuck out, and it's the part that the sort of Christians we're talking about hate the most. I'm not disagreeing with you, saying anything you said was invalid, or trying to misrepresent you. I'm merely pointing out that while you have a sane viewpoint, the people we were discussing don't.

Which is sad.

Because even a 12 year old knows how the tieds work.

I don't think it's so much that he doesn't know how the tides work as much as I think he's a bit...gullible.

I admit having fallen prey to the idiocy of peoples' arguments. You spend a lot of time talking to people who are speaking from cited sources and who are voracious readers of scientific pursuits and then you get confronted with people who are talking out of their ass and the bullshit they spew is so unbelievably stupid you find yourself thrown off and wondering if somehow your information is out of date. Hell, after Two-Face O'Reilly [seriously, ever seen the man on the Daily Show? It's like he realizes that if he tries to pull something over on Jon, Jon's going to rip him a new asshole...and he's probably right to think so] said the "you can't explain the tides" thing, I genuinely had to go looking up information to see if there had been something to disprove the lunar effect of the tides. Of course, there wasn't, but it's such an idiotic thing to say that it completely throws you off your game because...well, in my case, anyway, I wasn't prepared for someone to be THAT FUCKING STUPID. *laughs*

I mean, Mr. Silverman actually kind of pointed that out, in his own quiet way; his facial reaction to the statement is priceless and immortalized in meme form now; the famous "are you serious?" rage-comic face, aptly named, too. When you're confronted with such stupidity, IS there anything you can really say? You'd have to go back and start reciting elementary school educational books to the idiot before you, and is it really worth it?

No.

Faux Snooze loves to pull the Stupid card; it's a card of deceit. You whip that sumbitch out when you're facing someone of superior intellect and it dazzles them into total silence, because these interviews are nothing but soundbytes that last for 120 seconds at most and your audience is a bunch of dumbass hicks who probably think the earth is only 7,000 years old; maintaining the illusion of superiority is all you need to do, because you sure as hell aren't going to start winning anyone else to your network.

This is the Faux Snooze way of thinking, and it's deceptively clever. It's clever...but it's not smart. It's stupidity masquerading as scholastic wit. It's a cheap trick and only the morons of this country buy into it.

If the internet has taught me anything, it's that 90% of those who watch or participate in any form of media believe that an unanswered argument point is a "won" argument point. Leaving it unanswered because it was so profoundly stupid that your brain short-circuited and you decided hastily to move on to something that didn't require massive brain hemmorage to deal with is only understood by a select few.

I've known people who get pissed if you delete your own facebook posts because they think it should be there for posterity, even when the conversation has degenerated and they were the stupid-looking ones. I know people (let's call them "A") who get pissed at other people ("B") because when A calls B out on something so retarded that A should be ashamed of themselves and B ignores it to go on about their much more important life, A will declare victory and feel like this:

Silence is no longer golden in this country, if it ever was, and a meme-worthy face and "moving on to more important matters!" tone is taken as conceding defeat by those "morons" who make up an entirely too vast portion of our population. There are plenty of liberals and atheists who feel he should have shouted O'Reilly down, but I doubt it would have done any good. Fox has a history of shutting down entire interviews when they don't go their way. Silverman plays with Fox's tactics the best way he can.

I don't actively seek out Fox clips, because as I've stated numerous times, I turn into the Hulk and want to smash things when I see it, but in my limited experience there's only been one man allowed to say what he wants without giving a flying fuck what anyone thought, and that was Bill Clinton. The title is somewhat disingenuous, in my opinion - I don't think he entirely kicks the crap out of them - but goddammit, he had something to say and he was going to correct them and say it. And fuck them if they didn't like it - he wasn't president anymore and he wasn't going to take any of their shit.

RE: Fox News Again
I have to say, as a former raised-Christian, I have never once felt a sense of oppression or disrespect towards the Christmas holiday and season. Growing up, I rarely encountered any Jewish, Muslim, Hindu, or any other traditions being displayed in the public arena, but Christmas was an ever-present occurrence.

Now, I certainly don't believe that the majority of Christians feel as if they are suffering through a "War on Christmas," but their leading spokespeople are so often out-of-touch with the people. It is quite sad, really. Their bigotry, anger, and discontent only serves to further divide and radicalize their moderate friends.

I think the greatest issue to be taken away from the "War on Christmas" is that social change is a slow process and it simply takes a coming and going of new and old generations to fully replace the old ways. Heated and radical messages from Fox News only serve a steadily fading demographic, rapidly being replaced by a new set of believers and non-believers alike, who both distrust the sort of messages found on Fox News.

The "traditions" touted by the modern "fair and balanced" conservative would have been highly controversial, even liberal, back in the idealistic "good old days" of Fox News lore. Fact: Bill O'Reilly said that the reason President Obama won re-election was because of a "new and worrisome" change in the American demographic. Fact: Someone like Bill O'Reilly would have been persecuted and shunned for his Roman Catholicism only a mere fifty years ago, and today he complains about increasing presences of Muslims, Blacks, and Latinos in the working, middle, and professional classes.

As a white middle-class male I say it's about time America had a demographic shift. It's about time "minorities" became more of a majority and the "strange" and "non-traditional" became the respected, valued, and beautiful new focus of a truly free nation of true individual freedoms and liberties.
