Back on track...lol, I think that there's a certain allure and definitely a convenience in imagining that the founding fathers (or subsequent amenders) had Something Better™ or Not Quite as Shitty™ in mind...when penning the second amendment.  That..somehow, the deficiency was not their own..but a failure on our part, today, to properly understand their wise and noble intent.  
 
Guns are covered in and of themselves in the second, as property in the fifth, and as other unmentioned in the ninth.  It's a tight box.  The founders got it wrong, if it's wrong.   The bill of rights, is wrong...if it's wrong.

(lol, you know that drunken hessian thing is propaganda- but yes, a surprise attack with overwhelming force in tight quarters under urban terrain favors non-conventional forces. That was as true then as it is now. I was referring, specifically, to their engagement at the bridge. They held their ground and returned fire, a temporary reversal of fate for both parties)

Cowpens was fought in 1781.  At that battle General Daniel Morgan implored his militia to give him just two fires before they ran away.  That meant the one they started with and one re-load.

I'd say that even then expectations were fairly low.

It's almost as if there's an issue with inadequate funding and staff for completing background checks at the federal level.  Just got done opining (in another thread) on a similar backlog at the atf, and the issue of default proceed sales.

Guns now third leading cause of death for US children

A study published Monday in the journal Pediatrics showed that an average of 5,790 children in the United States receive emergency room treatment for gun-related injuries each year, and around 21 percent of those injuries are unintentional. The study also found that an average of 1,297 children die annually from gun-related injuries, making guns the third-leading cause of death for children in America (behind illnesses and unintentional injuries like drownings or car crashes). The number is based on data taken from 2012–2014 for children up to the age of 17.

Ah, yes.... well fuck 'em.  Children are expendable in the cause of gun nut freedom.

-that leaves 79%............... Maybe we should do something about these people shooting their kids, and the kids shooting each other..what with it being super illegal and all. The gun nutters approval isn't required to curb intentional shootings.

How are guns or the second amendment the problem? It's a stupid guy with a gun. No different from radicals using vans or fertilizer and diesel fuel to kill people. The tool used is most definitely miles away from the root cause of why it got used to begin with.
