Gee.... I wonder what the difference might be?
https://www.thelocal.de/20160616/five-th...ntrol-laws
Quote:1. Germany has some of the strictest gun laws in Europe
Quote:To get a gun, Germans must first obtain a firearms ownership license (Waffenbesitzkarte) - and you may need a different one for each weapon you buy - or a license to carry (Waffenschein).
Applicants for a license must be at least 18 years old and undergo what’s called a reliability check, which includes checking for criminal records, whether the person is an alcohol or drug addict, whether they have mental illness or any other attributes that might make them questionable to authorities.
The also have to pass a “specialized knowledge test” on guns and people younger than 25 applying for their first license must go through a psychiatric evaluation.
One must also prove a specific and approved need for the weapon, which is mainly limited to use by hunters, competitive marksmen, collectors and security workers - not for self-defence.
Once you have a license, you’re also limited in the number of and kinds of guns you may own, depending on what kind of license you have: Fully automatic weapons are banned for all, while semiautomatic firearms are banned for anything other than hunting or competitive shooting.
Under the reforms passed in the wake of a 2009 mass shooting, gun owners are also subject to continued monitoring by the government with officials able to ask gun owners at any time to enter their private property and check that they are properly storing their weapons.
Ah ha!

The majority of that is also -our- federal law...what isn't can be..and in some states is, and has survived constitutional challenges. The very last bit would be the hardest sell..but..when we get a drivers license we sign consent for police stops and dui testing...so..not an impossible stretch.
None of it would keep me from owning guns, and none of it would infringe upon my right to bear arms, as evidenced by the fact that I'd still have a closetful of legal guns. I honestly think that CJ there is right for the wrong reasons. It; not the second amendment, or guns..that;s the problem here. Those other places have guns, and our second amendment doesn't actually stop us from assuming whatever portion of those laws we don't currently possess.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

That's the heart of the false equivalence, thank you.
But you're still not validating your point. Guns were made to kill, but then so were axes, bows, and knives; among other things. Guns can be used to kill animals for food or as protection as well. by far their largest use within the United States.
20,000 some odd people commit suicide each year. Some with guns, some by hanging themselves, some by dropping a toaster in the bath tub. Someone blows their face off and the community screams for gun control, but there's never a call for banning ropes, toasters, or warm baths. In those cases the narrative is "So and so had a troubled past and needed help." The reason being that everyone has a personal use for toasters and ropes so it is best to look at the deeper cause.
Why not look at the deeper of the various issues when guns are involved? What makes guns the "cause" of the issue?

Shooting things isn't always negative. My son won the state trap shooting championship for his age group at 14 and won a scholarship because of it. I've also shot deer, squirrel, pheasant, and turkey.
I'm just not seeing how guns are the problem or the cause.

Because if some dumb fuck wants to hang himself and puts the rope down for a moment we don't have to worry that someone toddler will come along, pick it up, and hang him or herself with it.
Guns are inherently dangerous and most people are not careful enough with them.
That's the whole point of this entire thread. There are too many dumb fucks with guns walking around.

300,000,000 people.
600,000,000 guns.
What could possibly go wrong?

Cars are inherently dangerous, but I still drive fast as hell, as do others. If there is an issue, I will have to shoulder the consequences; as will anyone else around me. No one is screaming for speed limit sensors to be put in Corvettes (currently governed at 150mph). Motorcycles are inherently dangerous, but I road raced for seven years and I do triple digit speeds on the roads now ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=27BB9rbUxw0&t=56). If there is an issue, I will have to shoulder the consequences; as will anyone else around me. No one is screaming for speed limit sensors in sport bikes (currently governed at 186mph). If I leave the keys in either of the two, a kid could easily kill him/her self with either and probably take someone else out with them.
I sat on a train last year going from Amsterdam to Zaandam and got a front row seat while a guy stabbed four people on. Myself and three others tackled him. Had I been in Indiana, I would have had a Glock that would have stopped him between stab #1 and stab #2. I actually put my hand on my right hip after he stabbed the first lady. The Netherlands needs knife laws. Wait… they do have those and it didn’t help.
Life is about choices and everyone has a personal right to make those choices for themselves (excluding bombings and such). Doing stupid shit in a stupid manner has stupid results and it sometimes involves others.
Just my opinion, but anti 2nd amendment and anti-gun activists sound like a bunch of Christians trying to justify the unjustifiable. Just because someone feels a particular way doesn’t mean that others should have their rights violated based on those beliefs. At least not until a logical reason can be given.

See, this is why I don't use public transportation. There are people on trains with glocks. Fun fact, the constitution neither grants you, nor protects, any right to carry a glock in a passenger car.
