Before I *thought* I was a chick... how do you mean? I mean, I've thought of maybe being a chick since I was like 4... but I wasn't wholly certain until I was 13.

I was more attracted to men than women before I started HRT... now I'm more attracted to women. I have had sex with many men, but only 4 instances come to particular mind as having enjoyed them more than slightly.

With women, I've only been with one... but every sexual experience has been wonderful.

I've dated only two people, both were women... one was a short term experiment on her part, the other is a long term loving relationship and we're extremely likely to marry and have (adopted) children.

Anyway, I used to try to date men, but it always felt 'off.' I simply couldn't date men as a men. I had no problem dating women, although I think at least a couple of the girls I dated picked up that there was something 'queer' about me.

Since transitioning, though, things have changed. I can date either men or women and feel perfectly comfortable with it. Before I was with my boyfriend, I was in a relationship with a woman for a little over a year.

Yes, I'll be the first to admit, I waited a lot longer than I would have liked. What can I say? I had no frame of reference. How could I say "I want to be a woman" when I didn't even really know what it was like to be a woman? How could I say "I feel like I'm a woman" when I didn't know what a woman feels like? I had daydreams about being a girl, sure, but I managed to convince myself that lots of men have those day dreams but they just don't tell anyone. I only transitioned when I was on the verge of suicide and now the idea of ending my life is about the most foreign thing I can think of.

What can I say? Trans women face heavy discrimination in other workplaces, but in sex work, being trans is actually seen as a positive. Combine that with the fact that transitioning takes money (for things like hormones, clothes and surgery) and sex work is damn tempting. Societal norms inflate the numbers a bit. But I also think the numbers there seem higher than they actually are because of the nature of sex work. I mean, if a girl is doing sex work, she kinda has to advertise that she's trans and kinda has to promote her genitals. If she's working as a doctor, lawyer, bus driver, burger flipper, secretary, nurse or pretty much an job that isn't in the sex industry, she isn't going to have to advertise that she's trans, and because of that she usually won't tell people she's trans except those she knows on a personal basis. In fact, you're probably encountered your own fair share of transsexuals just going about your life and you never even know it.

As far as prostitutes rights, there's a push for that, no doubt, but it's not really an official part of the GLBT community. "Prostitution" isn't a natural trait in the same way sexual orientation or gender identity is.

There's certainly a push for prostitution rights. TBH, the entire gay-rights thing doesn't exactly do it for me, (yeah, yeah, yeah i'm a bigot, etc). I sympathise with you, I may not agree with everything you believe, but I do sympathise.

Prostitution has been around longer than recognized transexuals, and also much longer than the social tolerance of gay/lesbians. Some call it the world's oldest profession. I think it's disgusting, and I loathe when I have to set foot inside a brothel, but that said, prostitutes want recognition.....

You do know that I was once your age, don't you? I've changed a lot and grown up a lot since 10 years ago, just saying ....

A biologist would have no idea what gender is since it isn't his subject, a sociologist on the other hand would have every understanding what our current gendering has to do with masculinity and femininity.

I'm explaining how the show portrayed transsexuals. The show didn't reveal that Miriam was a pornographic actor either. Like I said, so much for honesty - in the show. Why would anyone in their right mind want to represent and portray others like them in such a clearly revolting way?

She was in porn before and after "Something About Miriam", obviously. And yes, that's exactly how I think they found her, otherwise how else did they so easily find someone who was ruthless enough, selfish enough, heatless enough to do what "she" did in the show????

I don't see P being added on, if anything... I see T dropping off. Prostitution is work, none of the rest is at all related to it (sexuality and gender identity)... might as well add fishermen to the group

Interesting answer, Violet. Prostitutes feel discriminated against.... but then, hey that's their problem if you ask me. The VAST MAJORITY of prostitutes, at least in Australia, are regular injecting drug users. That's not a stereotype, it's true. A couple of years back a 17 year old woman was found DOA in a Canberra brothel, and yes she OD'd on narcotics. I'm 29, and I don't understand why any adult older than say 22 would want to have sex with a 17 year old, can you imagine you call the brothel and order a prostitute, and they send you a 17 year old? That's what happens when no one gives a shit about the health, safety and regulation of prostitution. So in a way, there is BS that certainly should be cleaned up, as for "prostitutes right's", as far as I'm concerned, they don't deserve to have any. But I do see them joining in with the GLBT-P movement in the future. Anyway, carry on.
