The pope has a pacemaker
The pope has a pacemaker, because medical science works better than god!

I don't get it. Why does your version of God have to be at odds with nature and technology? In your opinion what makes All Powerful God unable to work through technology and nature?

When I saw that headline on the BBC News site, I thought maybe old Ratzinger was in training for the next Olympics or something.
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist.  This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair.  Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second.  That means there's a situation vacant.'

Drich,

Again, you are being ridiculous. In this case your designer fucks up, through science and technology man improves on the design, and you still want to give the inept designer credit.

Because god working through humans conflicts with free will, and because there would be no need for god to use humans to achieve his ends.

You can say that god doesn't alter free will, since free will is whatever god wants it to be. You can also say that humans inventing things and saving lives helps us grow, so it's sort of like a test. However, to a god, our growth would be arbitrary. And if you're okay with god adjusting free will because he creates free will, there would then be no issue with god simply making us better people directly, without bothering with struggle or invention, since by claiming the former you admit that you're okay with the latter. (Altering free will and altering human thought and ability both break the same fundy argument; that a god would want us to live our own lives, without divine intervention.)

He could have simply made the Pope not require a pacemaker-- miraculous healing could have solved his health issues.
What falls away is always, and is near.

Also, I am not pretending to be female, this profile picture is my wonderful girlfriend. XD

You don't get it. Science and technology is at odds with god, regardless of whether you imagine god to be at odds with science and technology or not, and god has never yet won. In fact he lost so thoroughly that it is exactly as if he didn't exist to actually contest. The strongest explanation for why god behave exactly the same as one that does not exist is, guess what, god does not exist.

The shabby charade of "that's really how god works" is wearing so pitifully thin that nothing less dumb than you could fail to see it.

Of course you don't get it. But let me try to help you once again.

"Why does your version of Allah have to be at odds with nature and technology"

"Why does your version of Yahweh have to be at odds with nature and technology"

"Why does your version of Thor have to be at odds with lightening"

Invisible fictional beings have NOTHING to do with reality. You want a god to exist so of course, like Muslims and Jews and Hindus and every believer of fictional super heros, if you want the absurd logic to work in your head badly enough you will make it work, not because it does, but because you want your fiction to be real.

The pacemaker is keeping the Pope alive, not the fictional being he peddles and ignorantly swallows.

Kudosed the first post because humor.

But Dirch is right: why would a god not work within the system they created?

And now I feel like playing spore...
