But first, look at the sources in the article you posted, the earliest source is "al-bukhari", which is also the name of the scholar who wrote the book.

Problem is...al bukhari wrote his book after almost 300 years of the prophet's death. Now how many legends, myths & personal opinions were embedded in these writings ? nobody knows.

Right, so it's the women's fault that some men can't curb their sexual appetites and they have to cover up? Wouldn't it have been more fair to put a chastity belt on the men who weren't able to keep their hands and penises to themselves?
And no, I don't say that every muslim woman is oppressed, quite a few girls at my high school chose to wear scarves, even though their families were moderate, in order to preserve the culture. I just find the beginnings for this practice unfair and oppressive.

I have to agree with Dee, pretty harsh punishments. But because of this I have a follow up question: If women are to cover themselves in order to not be alluring and victims of rape, why are still muslin women, who are modestly clad still raped? If the scarf really doesn't do anything about the problem, why are they still required to wear it?

The thing is though, can you compare an execution with rape? Now obviously I really loathe rapists and would like to see them suffer equally to what they did to their victims, but murder is finite, rape you can live through. Horrid though the crime of rape is, I don't think it's worth a life.
