Some theists can't understand the "no belief" part of atheism. They can't get their tiny minds around no belief and they react as people always do to things they don't understand. With fear. Which manifests as hate.
You can fix ignorance, you can't fix stupid.

Many people on this site have been doing this type of thing to me. Read more clearly, please.
And what kind of newsmedia do you use? The kind which isnt really news, like FOX news?
NBC, but all networks have their biases.

You said the news portrayed them and then specifically said that you are (or were, you didn't specify) one of the people who 'held a huge judgement' against 'atheists' for that. I mean what is the other reading of that? All Atheists weren't trying to remove the ground zero cross. Most of us don't give a shit one way or another.
Yes, I included myself as one of the people the news convinced.

i havent met any religious people who hate me just for being an atheist, but yeh im sure they would do it i tried to explain to them in great detail why i think their religion is wrong.
This is just my experience though, i live in england where it isnt such a big deal.
I hate it when people say a lot of atheists are arrogant, i havent seen any in particular that were extremely arrogant.
I hate it when people call richard dawkins arrogant, hes just basically saying stop using religion as an excuse to spout shit from your mouth all the time and actually provide evidence.
I watched one tv show where a woman said being homosexual was unnatural and its because of her religion she believes this and richard dawkins said her view wasnt valid because it isnt based on evidence and someone called him arrogant, but i think hes totally right, there should be some snobbery when it comes to politics, science and art, because theres too many fucking morons out there who will vote for stupid shit, believe in unscientific stupid shit and enjoy watching x factor pop idol and americas got talent.
Theres just some opinions out there that are just fucking moronic and it doesnt make them right just to add at the end of the opinion "its because of my religion".
Are you ready for the fire? We are firemen. WE ARE FIREMEN! The heat doesn’t bother us. We live in the heat. We train in the heat. It tells us that we’re ready, we’re at home, we’re where we’re supposed to be. Flames don’t intimidate us. What do we do? We control the flame. We control them. We move the flames where we want to. And then we extinguish them.
Impersonation is treason.

It's the non religious that hate atheists. They're the new unwelcome preacher ready to pounce on anyone not conforming to the norm.

I wonder if atheist will catch on as a Christian name like Christian? That would be cool.

Theres just some opinions out there that are just fucking moronic and it doesnt make them right just to add at the end of the opinion "its because of my religion". Sometimes, we consider the opinions of others ill-informed or irrational when in fact there simply isn't enough time in the world for them to covey the subtlety or ultimate foundations of their opinions. Just because you do not know or refuse to accept how they arrived at their belief does not make them or their opinions stupid.
Some people who do not have the time or inclination to learn Greek and Hebrew and study the scriptures for hours on end, actually respect the opinions of those who do. And out of that respect they accept those opinions as their own.
Some people have had very personal and direct experiences that profoundly effect how they view things. This may make them more open to consider that there is more to this world than appears to be the case.
Some people have applied their own insights and reasoning to inform their opinions. However, reasoning is only as good as the assumptions on which is based.
None of these are mutually exclusive, most people form an opinion by reasoning from your own life experiences and relying upon respected authorities for relevant information.
You are wrong to consider yourself and your opinions superior just because the sources and underlying assumptions you rely upon differ from others and your believe yourself to be more rational.
