Do you really want to be going down this path while belonging to a subculture of institutionalized racism, sexism and near genocidal violence? You really wanna be talking about how people present themselves in a situation like yours, Strodel?

But the Christian church has repudiated racism and given racist leaders in its past less of a standing of respect. The same goes for overt sexism and genocidal violence. Christians recognize the failings of their past and try and learn from their mistakes. Of course there have been Christian leaders who really were Christians, who really were motivated by what seemed to be theological concerns and who have done bad things. But the Christian church has repudiated these leaders.

The same cannot be said for the atheist movement.

Depends on the denomination you're talking to. I can sense a no true scotsman in the future, but since you're judging all atheists based on the actions of some, I'm just going to go ahead and ignore it when it comes, okay? Smile

No, I didn't lump all atheists together. I understand there are plenty of 63 year old atheists from the Mid West that are accountants, have families, have never been hippies and voted for Ron Paul. This is perfectly true and I accept this.

But there are also plenty of atheists who are 17, who like to take acid, who read books by left wing authors and who get their worldview from the music scene they belong to. This particular culture is the culture that I grew up with, and the culture that I see represented here.

I never said all atheists were the second type, but there are a whole lot of them like that. Maybe it is 30 or 40 percent of the atheist movement.

No it doesn't. What denominations can you name that promote racism or sexism or genocide today? I can't think of a single one. Unfortunately, that could not be said 60 years ago. To balance that unfortunate fact, you have to realize that the abolitionist movement, the peace movement, and feminism have all been influenced by Christianity.

Really. You must be on a different site than I am, because I certainly don't see very many people who would match that description here. Certainly not enough to say it's representative of any "culture" here.

Dunno, I've been here for over a year and a half, and have read many tens of thousands of posts here and I'm not seeing what you're seeing.

Perhaps one of us needs a visit with the optometrist.

I believe he's implying that you're full of shit. Can't say that I blame him.

Seriously. I know it was in informal one, but my poll definitely says other than what you claim to see here, jstrodel. But, I'm probably right in assuming you're a troll.

You are ruining peoples lives. If you are the one who gets addicted, it is no ones fault but your own, and you will suffer and then you will go back and do the same thing I am doing now, with your head down low, realizing that you couldn't "outsmart" drugs. That is the culture.

You went from one addiction (specific drugs) to another one (religion).

You're among the worst excuses for Christian theology -- you're not drawn to it by humility and grace, but to judge others.

Your motives are not pure. They are with an agenda.

And to that, I say, let he who is without sin cast the first stone.

You are posting this in a thread about taking ecstasy. Don't you have any sense of self respect?

My agenda is to get people off drugs and not have to go through the same crap I went through. There is a grace in warning people.

I have sinned a lot, I am not casting stones at anyone, that passage is talking about the death penalty, it is not talking about words. I am not condemning anyone, I am just pointing out the fact that if you tell people that drugs are safe, you are a wicked person. This is true, I'm not trying to condemn anyone, but it is an extremely evil thing to tell people that something that will destroy your life is safe. Ecstasy is not safe.

You should realize that -

a) Freedom of expression is something that this site values, and people are free to discuss what they wish without interference. I'll note that the same freedom of expression that allows people to talk about things some find unsavory is the freedom that allows you to speak your mind here as well. Furthermore, that is NOT a courtesy that is extended to atheists on many Christian sites.

b) The number of people who have expressed positive views on ecstasy are a tiny minority of active posters here, much less the general membership?

Jiminy Fucking Christmas, go read Matthew 7:1-6, and then go fuck your self-righteous self with a cactus.

You gotta love that freedom of expression.

RE: Ecstasy
I appreciate the freedom of expression, and that is true that you give Christians liberties here that they do not have on other sites. I appreciate that. At the same time, the freedom of expression is different from advocacy. It is different to permit someone to express their views on ecstasy and then rebuke them for faulty views versus permit the expression of those views and say "Yeah, I did it, it was amazing" or maybe worst still, be absolutely silent.
