It is empty because your understanding of spirituality is pornography and videogames.
If you have ever given up anything in your life to grow spiritually, if you have ever tried to discipline yourself, if you have ever striven to conquer pride and selfishness and live by a higher law than your senses, something that all great spiritual traditions do, not just Christians, you would quickly realize that what I wrote was not platitudinous.

You don't know anything about my understanding of spirituality, fail. If folks such as yourself would stop using the word I'd be mighty friendly to it.
How does one grow spiritually, what is the process whereby a spirit grows, what is a spirit to begin with? Platitude. Blather on to someone else about discipline and conquering pride, hooah? To me, it sounds pathetic, especially since your notion of discipline would appear to have something to do with your holybook. I'll take discipline under fire over discipline under faeries, thank you.

How do you think that people should overcome selfishness? If someone walked up to you and asked you "how do I overcome selfishness", what would you tell them?
I bet you have never had anyone ask you that in your whole life.

jstrodel, if you are enlightened, then a more compassionate forbearing type preaching would be better? Instead of being condescending towards people which turns them off, it's better to be down to earth. I'm not saying you aren't enlightened, it's just that there is better way to pass on that knowledge and wisdom.

Should they overcome selfishness? In any case, I'd ask them if I looked like a fucking guru. What kind of asshat goes looking for a cheat-sheet when they can't figure out how to handle some issue of their inner life to their own satisfaction? I hope no one ever asks me that (it's amusing that you would ask, isn't it).
Notice that you're recklessly listing from one proposition to the next, you are incapable of elaborating upon your platitudes. Know why? Because they're platitudes Empty, trite, but often recited as though they were meaningful or profound.

Thanks for the advice. My hope is that in in exposing foolishness and virtue that people could see that the attainment of spiritual virtue is no less praiseworthy than the attainment of knowledge of the details of science, in the hope that people would recognize this and realize the necessity of attaining to this virtue.
I am sorry that I came off as condescending to you. I think that to know wisdom is to deny what is foolish and to deny it where ever it is found.
I wish I knew how to prove that in my heart is only love and sincere desire to open the eyes of those who have shut their eyes to love and holiness and fixed their eyes on debate.

So says the man who has never taught virtue. I suppose I should just take your word for it.
Meditate on this verse and how it relates to your fusion of scientism and hedonism:
"Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You give a tenth of your spices--mint, dill and cumin. But you have neglected the more important matters of the law--justice, mercy and faithfulness. You should have practiced the latter, without neglecting the former.
Mt 23:23
That is what you do. You demand absolute adherence to your made up morals that revolve around the appreciation of the culture of industry but deny the weightier matters of the law: justice, mercy and faithfulness.

Now we're on to virtue, what a troll. You don't know whether or not I've taught virtue nor could you produce a definitive "virtue" if pressed. Quoting scripture, the final refuge of those with nothing to say. Unfortunately, those who wrote scripture had nothing to say either - that's how we ended up with scripture, in all it's glorious worthlessness.

I am fairly certain there is something more significant to be gleaned from a Star Wars meme than religion.

Perhaps you didn't realize this Strodel, but you'd have trouble maintaining a conversation with anyone who wasn't beating their heads against the pews of your church, not just here on the interwebs. You're failing at conversation, discourse and disagreement, not the internet.
