Ohio School Takes Down Jesus Portrait

Ohio School Takes Down Jesus Portrait
http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2013...rait-1947/

Quote:Some legal persuasion by the American Civil Liberties Union has prompted a southern Ohio school district to take down a Jesus portrait that has been up since 1947.
The decision to remove the portrait from Jackson Middle School was made after the district’s insurance company refused to cover litigation fees. The Hi-Y Club, a Christian-based club that the school says owns the portrait, took it down, The Blaze reported.

A small victory, but important nonetheless. Strike one for the good guys in keeping the hegemony of Christianity in the US at bay.

To me it just shows how petty militant atheists are. They go out of their way to be offended.

Out of their way? Hardly, especially considering that there is a clear and mandatory separation of church and state for public schools.

I know right, petty, militant atheists and their unfathomable desire to see our country remain true to the notion that it's government doesn't have the right to promote the religious beliefs, rituals or values of any particular faith.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

And are at the same time trying to suppress the free exercise of religion. You can have your chess club, but don't dare use the school library to study the Bible.

When you see the military marching on churches come back to me with that one. Until then you can peddle your martyr complex elsewhere.

I am unaware of any public school banning the private reading of one's bible. Just so long as there is not a teacher-led prayer meeting/reading of the bible.

Church and State separation aside, I don't see much inherently wrong with a portrait in and of itself. I mean, it's not like anyone knows what the bastard 'actually' looked like; they could have said it was a picture of anyone.
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist.  This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair.  Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second.  That means there's a situation vacant.'

Yeah, really. Why not just change the caption to read "Jim Croce"?
"Well, evolution is a theory. It is also a fact. And facts and theories are different things, not rungs in a hierarchy of increasing certainty. Facts are the world's data. Theories are structures of ideas that explain and interpret facts. Facts don't go away when scientists debate rival theories to explain them. Einstein's theory of gravitation replaced Newton's in this century, but apples didn't suspend themselves in midair, pending the outcome. And humans evolved from ape- like ancestors whether they did so by Darwin's proposed mechanism or by some other yet to be discovered."
