RE: Cheney: Obama Lied!

I saw this documentary on Cheney a month or so ago. He truly believes in what he says and does... Which is far more terrifying. At one point in the interview he said something along the lines, and I'm paraphrasing here, "If there was a 1% chance the terrorists would do something, then we had to assume they would do it." This being in relation to the sense of paranoia after 9/11. It made me wonder how he walks down the street. Our chances of being hit by a car are far greater than 1%, yet most people don't let those risks effect their daily lives. Why should our leaders be this paranoid? A 1% chance is far from a certainty, and definately not something to mobilize an army for. We should have invaded Afghanistan, it's where the terrorists who planned and expected the 9/11 attacks were. Invading Iraq because of WMDs was a farce, there were no WMDs, Iraq posed no serious threat to anyone, except its own people. It's not the US's job to go around policing the globe.
I highly recommend watching the entire documentary. It humanized Cheney, and by doing so exposed him as a paranoid, control freak, an intelligent, paranoid, control freak, but a freak nonetheless.
If you're supporting Cheney, you're holding onto a sinking ship. History isn't going to look upon him favorably.

Fear sells, festive. The best way to get elected is to convince the public that the boogeyman exists, and you are the one that knows what to do about it.

He was most earnest... I truly think he believed the hype he, in part, created. Bad guys don't think of themselves as "bad." Cheney really thinks the Bush administration acted appropriately, therein lies the problem.

Okay. Thanks for the opinion.
I suppose one could "respect" an evil genius who has the gall to step into the spotlight after wrecking the country so thoroughly if your only basis of comparison is a drug addled, lazy, idiotic, spoiled, pampered child of privilege who was just along for the ride.

I haven't seen the documentary yet, so I can't comment on whether I feel his belief in the Bush administration's actions are genuine. I will say, however, that it is entirely likely that he is just unwilling to admit that he was responsible for the biggest clusterfuck since the Vietnam War.

You're right, he could be lying, but I think he believes the lie, the alternative would force him to think less of himself.

Only if he has a conscience. So far, I have seen no evidence for this.

The documentary also goes into his mental gymnastics involved in the expansion of powers of a Vice President... That was creepy too. He thinks he was elected VP because he knew he couldn't win the presidency, but he specifically was chosen as VP to guide the administration. Master of puppets sort of stuff... Elect the president as a figurehead, but have the actual decisions of the administration being made by the people behind the scenes. Where they aren't subject to as much scrutiny or accountable to the electorate...
