You mean that metaphorically...right? Because, seriously....with stonings and amputations and beheadings already present...I think the last thing islam needs to add to it's repertoire is crucifixion.....

Of all the sorts of torture one might inflict as reprisal for a crime - there are some that stand out as having more to do with the people watching than the person being "punished" - crucifixion is pretty high on that list. Publicized beheadings, I think, qualify as well. Punishment, no, providing opportunity to make a political statement, yes.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I don't know what you mean about what Islam does or doesn't need. But there is an opinion in Islam that crucifixions are allowed to be carried out under crimes that are particularly grievous as a reminder to others the consequences of such actions. I don't have the academic ability or credentials to be able to declare whether or not this opinion is valid in light of the Qur'an or even how strong this opinion is amongst the scholars, but the only Muslim nation that carries out crucifixions is Saudi Arabia, there was a case of a pedophile who raped 5 kids, he was beheaded and then crucified. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/middle_...342005.stm I am personally happy with that verdict and would like to see it implemented in Great Britain but unfortunately, the only people that agree with me are the far right such as the BNP, so it will never be implemented.

I don't know whether I should be disappointed or elated, that you actually meant that literally, lol.

I'm not sure how justifying and perpetuating this "eye for an eye" bullshit - the very nonsense involved in this, via public execution - the very nonsense involved in this -would help at all.

I don't understand what you have against the death penalty, it brings the re-offending rate down to 0. One of the main reasons of killing a perpetrator of a crime worthy of the death penalty, is so that they don't do it again, and it works.

RE: The Reglion of peace strikes yet again
Sure, it adds another killing to the tally though, doesn't it? I've always thought that serial killers, for example, should be given credit for at least one more victim - themselves. In any case, reducing the re-offending rate by means of execution would work on any crime. Like tax evasion. So if that's why we're doing it, why not do it in the case of every crime? No, no, it's not about the rate of repeat offense, that's just a convenient point of diversion for something else.

My objections would probably derail the thread, sufficeth to say that I'm uncomfortable being complicit in a killing carried out at the behest of a fallible system - which is then called justice. Here in the states, we have a disturbing number of overturned sentences.

Well, let me tell you what happens. A guy kills a few people, he is sent to prison. Sometimes they continue to kill inside the prison itself, so they get transferred. And then when they come out like 30 years later, they see no point in living normally now because their life is ending so they kill a couple more people and then they get sent to prison again. That's a lot of dead bodies.

Is that what happens, speaking from experience or out of your ass?

If you keep killing inside of a prison, they keep you in prison. It's not like all bets are off or anything. If you've served your sentence and were released, then that's that, you don;t get to shiv one last person the night before your release - grand hurrah style- and then stroll out the gates, they'll just add another sentence. We generally don't punish people for what they might do in the future. So saying that we should go ahead and kill someone today for a crime they may commit tomorrow (an appeal to re-offense)..well...meh-doesn't work in our system - even if we are OK with capital punishment, which we are.

No, I'm actually not speaking out my ass, that shit does happen. I think it's a valid reason, it's my own opinion really. I don't think there should be second chances when human lives are at stake. This is not the holistic reason why I support the death penalty (that would probably take too long to list or clarify), but it's one I feel passionately about. I strongly believe that a zero tolerance approach is the best approach.

I gave you the kudos because of the US justice point you made, which I agree with. There is statistical evidence of racial bias in Southern courts for example. These kind of things cannot be ignored.

It actually extends throughout the entire US justice system... Look at California, some of the most overcrowded prisons, full of young, black and brown men...

Well, it's not just Britain. We have riots in Sweden(!), we have soldier killed in France and we have muslims trying to hijack a plane in Britain.

And I'm happy that your barbaric laws have no place in civilized society.

Are you familiar with an old phrase "Does NOT compute"? Your views on laws in Britain would get you one way ticket back into desert, if Britain had zero tolerance policy.

As for death penalty, I think under some cases criminal should be executed, but NOT to make an example of him/her (we all know how muslims love to make example of raped women, right?), but because the alternative, that is prison, would be a living hell for them. Just think about those men who killed a soldier, think what would happen if they get a life sentence? You think other prisoners would leave them in piece? No!
