On the one hand, it is frustrating and tedious to see the same old arguments come up time and time again - and I can imagine that it is much the same from the theist side of the fence. From that perspective, organizing common / old arguments into specific threads is an idea that has some merit - though I would not single out theistic arguments.

TBH - there are plenty of arguments from the atheist's side that to theists I am sure are equally repetitive. I can understand why there is vocal opposition from theists to this based on that alone - and so the only way I would support implementing this is if such threads were created for old / repetitive arguments in general.

Singling out theistic arguments is off-putting to them, and I would not want to see these forums turn into a big atheist sausage fest.

On the other hand.... wait... where did my other fucking hand go?!?!?!
I love it.

You're quite the drama queen when you lose an argument.

I've observed that people who crow about winning an argument are unlikely to have actually done so.

I'm still wondering where he saw the "drama" but on the other hand he sucks at jokes too so I think his internal compass is more than a few degrees off north.

It is obvious that most (vocal) Atheists here are hostile to the idea of fair treatment, but might does not make right.

Yeah, atheists aren't perfect, but I just do not get why or how you think we'll be 'caging' you if we have a sub-forum of old arguments to refer to.

And yes, we do have an unfair advantage, because pretty much all of our arguments are just criticisms of theist arguments. Same old argument brings the same old criticisms.

I wouldn't mind throwing threads with examples of tired fallacious criticisms of theist arguments in the same subforum, though.

Meh, I don't see it either, but I'm not getting into an argument over how dramatic I'm being. Wink

I think the logistics of having special rules for one subforum, which would be necessary to make this idea work, are too difficult to implement. If I ever do put another website together, I may have a page dedicated to this idea so that atheists and other non-cultists can link to to quickly dispense with their debunked-yet-endlessly-recycled-crap they get confronted with.

As an added bonus, this resource will make Christians and Muslims alike feel so persecuted and put-upon and hurt their poor wittle feewings (for reasons I can't fathom). It doesn't take much to make them feel persecuted, does it?

Ohhh the drama!

I especially love the ad hominem tu quoque rebuttals these drama queens have put forward. "Oh yeah, well atheists do it too!" You've done A-Theist proud. Tell me, what atheists continually trot out completely debunked arguments over and over? Show me where Christians and Muslims have to repeatedly post the same rebuttals to tired-and-completely-discredited atheist arguments because atheists continually reuse them. Please give me some real examples of this same behavior. ...and then you can have your own thread/webpage on that subject.

Still, its fun to watch religionists screeching all over this. Calm down we aren't going to corral you into a pen and start poking you with a stick, that would be the christian thing to do Big Grin

Altough its mighty fun to watch how christians react when the table is turned against them Hilarious

The one problem with this idea that I see - the one actual problem - is that people who don't come here for rational discourse and don't bother poking around before they splooge all over the place aren't likely to use such a subforum ANYWAY.

However, having a single place to find convenient links is still a good idea.

Good idea. About it being for tired and weak arguments in general, not the sausage thing. You can handle that one.

Mabe a sticky thread, people suggest overused arguments, common rebuttals, and its done.

You mean like the OP?
Quote:Please do not present any of the following arguments and think you're offering us anything new or even anything that atheists haven't heard and debunked a million times already.
So, by your observation, it's unlikely they've actually been debunked.

Most stuff would just get lost. Having separate threads at least keeps each argument on its own, rather than just a post here or there on a thread.
