Science confirms the Bible?
RE: Science confirms the Bible?
That'd definitely save us a ton on munitions.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

You wouldn't call "believe in god or die" a hellish shell game of personal confessions? What would you call that (I could suggest a few other things)?
Can you just take a deep breath before you type?

The person who gives up his life in order to do something that saves many other lives would consider it a worthwhile sacrifice, and it's difficult to argue otherwise. The person who does so for an ideal may feel the same way, but whether we agree depends on what he did and what the ideal was. The soldiers on opposite sides of a battle may believe strongly in their cause and be ready to die for their country, but without context we would hesitate to claim that they both fight (and possibly die) for something worthwhile.

This is a good point; I'd probably feel differently if I knew my death would give some demonstrable benefit to others that outweighs the good I would do alive. If I knew my death would, say, save others, that's a different story.

What I wouldn't do, is die rather than recant my beliefs. There's no use to that death beyond salvaging my own pride. The ideals themselves aren't injured by a temporary surrender.

Yeah but when they do kill people, surely you shouldn't just surrender? Like the Spanish pussies. 7 of them were killed in Iraq and what was their response? http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/europe/3637523.stm

You've mistaken my ability to respond to vitriol with vitriol in kind or excess as a function of my level of excitement. I can tell someone to fuck off for trolling as calmly as though I were a hindu cow.

That might true, but you'd still be doing the world a favour if you took a nice deep breath... and held it.

Yes, science has never given us anything has it? But an ancient book written by superstitious goatherders has made everyone's lives so much better.

I did not say that, why do you insist on reading into my statements what's not there. Science changes as fast as new generations of scientist come onto the scene. You know this to be true, it's been stated here many times by nonbelievers. Study ancient Rome and see what they thought about Christians, one thing I'll say is they thought they were strange, however they preferred Christians as neighbors to any one else. Christianity did not grow because of martyrs, it grew because of the life style they lived, Roman citizens considered Christians the most reliable and caring of all the people who lived around Rome.
Science has contributed much to humanity and will continue to, however science is only as true as the newest discovery that disproves older science.
God loves those who believe and those who do not and the same goes for me, you have no choice in this matter. That puts the matter of total free will to rest.

All for 'the greater good' and all that. Perhaps the planetary states should consider repatriating "refugees" and close the borders. Islamists seem to delight in fighting each other. When the fighting stops we can shoot the last man/woman standing?

Great for global warming and climate change and all that Tongue

sounds like a good plan... you think we could do the same with the christians, then?

Oh did they now....and here I thought that they were killing them left, right, and center to thunderous applause on the floor of the coliseum.....

Is that before..during..or after feeding them to lions?
