Jury finds for Cincinnati teacher fired from Catholic school while pregnant

RE: Jury finds for Cincinnati teacher fired from Catholic school while pregnant
Gil,

I was not implying that you are stupid. Ugh was used to express my exasperation caused by your failure to understand that the law is relevant when disputes are adjudicated in a court of law. Had we been having a more general conversation about a person keeping promises, then I would perhaps agree with you.

Well...do you? Take it out of the legal context. She signed a contract to abide by catholic doctrine. She may not known about artificial insemination, but she surely knew that having a same-sex partner was against church doctrine. Was it wrong for her to sign and accept the job?

You can't say 'take it out of the legal context' and then immediately invoke the contract; an employment contract is a legal instrument. That aside I will address your more general concern.

I'll concede that it is almost certain she knew the Catholic church's stance on homosexual relationships, which makes accepting church doctrine as a condition of employment dishonest. I would never seek employment with any church.

You cannot be held to or enter into an illegal contract "in good faith". The church cannot impose their religious beliefs via law -through a contract- and as employers even doubly so...in an employment contract - in direct defiance of labor law.

Before it even comes up - no..the churches right to exersize their religion has not been infringed upon - if they do not wish to be subject to labor law they can simply stop employing people and continue their godly "business" un-fucking-affected- or appeal to have the law changed...good fucking luck.

The catholic church has a long history of not acknowledging their inability to enforce their religious creeds upon others via law. Anyone who wants to talk about people entering into a contract "in bad faith" ought to point that crooked finger at those who feel compelled to draw up unenforceable and illegal contracts....don't you think?
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

Just like all that hullaballoo they raised when they were told that they'd have to have employee health insurance which covers contraceptives. They turned it around into the evil government taking away Catholics' rights.

Perfect. Also, I am disappointed in myself for my previous post. Goddamn, that was awful.

Anyhow, John V's post was mocking the idea that people are happy about a woman agreeing to something she wasn't set on complying with. It's fair to say the context wasn't what is lawfully right, but what is personally right, in that statement. Law is not relevant in that case.

Edit: I edited this post pretty heavily. At first, I just wanted to concede because I skipped the article, making a few mishaps, as well as my previous post looking like shit. But reason is to be had!

Such rights should be taken away.

Trouble is the seem to think they're above the law. I guess all those years of hiding sex abuse gave them a false sense of security and entitlement.

Bah! Silly us! Of course the laws of a fairy-tale being are more important than secular laws!
When I was young, there was a god with infinite power protecting me. Is there anyone else who felt that way? And was sure about it? but the first time I fell in love, I was thrown down - or maybe I broke free - and I bade farewell to God and became human. Now I don't have God's protection, and I walk on the ground without wings, but I don't regret this hardship. I want to live as a person. -Arina Tanemura

OK, change it to personal pledge or some such.
