Then I take back my accusation of fallacious reasoning for such a claim.

This however requires explanation. How exactly do you surmise that I, as a Texan am owed any "lumps" for an individual being elected office that I did not vote for. Secondly, how exactly does this tie into it?...

Is this some sort of supporting evidence for your belief that I'm owed lumps?

(July 9, 2013 at 12:12 pm)Moros Synackaon Wrote: They're still your problem and it's still your bloody state.
I will concede that such issues, if problematic, would be more significant to the people living in close proximity to them. However, it doesn't seem so in this case. You don't seem to live in Texas, and yet, appear to be much more concerned with such trappings. I don't see any problems and was there last week. I had a great time. Are you just trying to say that people suffering from problems induced by the official they vote for should be publically martyred? It sounds as though this is the justice you seek. Though, I am unclear as to why.

What would I accomplish by doing this exactly?

Well, here's the thing. If you are a part of a state, and you love it, then why aren't you involved in its politics? Politics, after all, are what determine how that state is run. You would think that if you love something, you would want it to be taken care of. This is the biggest reason why I am so interested in politics and why I pay attention to it and make sure to keep up to date on happenings in the city and state [and nation, of course] that I live in; because I love the US and I want it to be run by people who have it and its peoples' best interests at the forefront of their mind. It's why I don't snarl when people across the world criticize the US [though I will point out any pot-meets-kettle indications without hesitation, such as the British snarking about American imperialism when they practiced it themselves for hundreds of years], it's because it's the leadership they take issue with, and I know this, and I myself hold the government responsible, and why I try to vote for the best candidate possible and not just the one that happens to align themselves most closely with my own ideological concerns. Ya gotta take part in it. Shit's too important to let someone else deal with it. Complacency towards politics is what has led us to where we are now. People going "oh I've got better things to do." Better things to do than ensuring the people governing the nation, state, and city you live in are doing their jobs and ensuring the economic, domestic, and public security of those places?? Like what, reading about the Kardashians' latest whorings? [Disclaimer: CoH is not accusing you of reading about the Kardashian whores' latest whorings.] If you love Texas, then make sure it's being taken care of, don't just leave it to other people. We're human beings, we're a social species, and we only work at our best when we work as a group. One person paying attention to the issue followed by another person followed by another...ideas spread. Get involved. It'll help.

That's the problem with Texas. There's actually a lot of good people from there. But so many of them are completely politically disaffected, but if they weren't, Texas might start lighting up as a blue state from time to time, and that KILLS me. Mostly because I want to have an absolute gleegasm over Texas coming up blue for a presidential election...

I agree. And most Southerners, as they saw it, were fighting for their independence.

I'm not one of those people who thinks the war had nothing to do with slavery. I just think it had to do with a lot of other things, too.

The whole slavery bit was, itself, about political power (and wealth). How disappointing eh? I've heard a bunch of weird ass shit of late, about states rights and taxes...im guessing the southerners round these parts are tailoring their cultural history/identity to fit their current reality...lol. Similarly, I've heard that the north went to war to end slavery - it did not-, nor was the abolition of slavery without much benefit to those who undertook it. They sure as shit didn't do it for any slaves - who continued to be treated like...well..slaves - in the north-and- south for a very long time.

Two sides in the wrong on the majority of issues, but one in the right about 1 issue, which happened to win - and now that's all we connect with the concept of the Civil War. History and victors..lol.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

Fucking own your own mistakes, instead of playing No True Texan or "those were the other guys". They're still your problem and it's still your bloody state.

Americans, starting a new war every time you turn around, killing hundreds of thousands of people, putting economic sanctions on countries full of desperately poor people knowing they're the ones that will be hurt the worst. You put people in prison for decades for smoking something of which you disapprove, and let murderers out before the revolving door can smack them on the ass. What passes for a college education in your country would make a high schooler ashamed in advanced parts of the world. How can you live with yourselves?

I guess, I just don't give a shit. None of the things you all continue to list have anything to do with the things I like about Texas. From my military perspective, there is a lot more fucked up things that require attention than any of this petty anti-Texas squabble. Mexican Food, Sports Teams, Lakes and southern beach, that's what I like about Texas. Of all the things listed so far, which of them should I give a single fuck about? Not to mention my father lives there and I happen to really enjoy the time I spend with him there. I don't have a clue what some of you all are talking about. It sounds ridiculous.
