To many times atheists make fools of themselves because they fail to recognize linguistic, archeological, and cultural influences that can affect meanings, verbiage and over all context. Regardless of what “pro-atheist” pseudo studies they make. Those particular sectors of their religion must respected in regards to basic understanding. Just like people like Ray Comfort who do not understand science. You look just as foolish if you do not understand ancient doctrines. I mean this in all good advice, I am used archeology and their own contextual meanings to show biblical errors on their part.

Good advice for dealing with family members and good friends. Too much trouble for anyone else really. I find the bible unbearably boring, though I don't mind looking at short pithy quotes when someone brings them up. Unfortunately, most apologists read the bible as if they were lawyers but their 'law' doesn't apply to me.

One person carrying candles, one carrying a bible, and the other...a giant Jesus-Stick. Aside from a few wardrobe differences and the fog...spot on.

Because many christians have had their intellectual capacity so reduced by the jesus cult that they are no longer capable of grasping the implications of the concept of "fact", and think fact is nothing more than what is written in the right book.

The catholic mass is a despicable show.

Catholic mass is the paragon of reserve, delibration and rectitude compare to any number of evengelical howlfests.

Now matter how despicable a show christianity has actually put on, rest assured it has unlimited capacity to put on much more disgusting shows still. This is the true miracle of christianity.

And whether it has been deemed by them as the "right" interpretation, with the proper use of creative liberties that lead to it Wink

You guys are failing to take into account the most important factor in understanding Christianity.

And that is whether or not the magical ghost that grants you the special powers to correctly interpret scripture is guiding you.

You guys just need to get filled with the Holy Spirit(who is most certainly not your own desires projected upon an imaginary, invisible entity).

Unfalsifiable claims FTW.

Typical argument from the bible as if the bible is the ultimate authority on everything. Until they learn that we don't accept the bible as an authority they will keep using it to attack our beliefs. Christians don't see God's law as not applying to anyone, but to everyone. They have no concept of "opt-out."

Some times I think it would be fun to go to one of those holy roller churches and laugh at the idiots rolling around on the floor babbling nonsense, then congratulating themselves for being "filled with the Holy Spirit."

My wife's sister attended one of those churches once while church shopping with her then-husband. Once. She was pretty freaked out by it and realized quickly that she didn't want to be a part of a lunatic church like that.
Christian apologetics is the art of rolling a dog turd in sugar and selling it as a donut.

This was the hardest thing for me to understand during my deconversion.

All Christians who believe in free will know you can "opt-out," we are not saying you have to believe, but there is this, you can not "opt-out" of the judgement.
God loves those who believe and those who do not and the same goes for me, you have no choice in this matter. That puts the matter of total free will to rest.

I think that this is the issue. When you have a specific core belief that you accept uncritically, you spend a lot of time and effort making everything else conform to that belief. It would be impossible for me to fathom it if I hadn't been through that phase myself. I can understand why so many hang on to it; when I finally realized what the problem was, it was a real smack-to-the-forehead moment.

It's also why I don't think too much about all the years I wasted; getting out at all was a pretty low probability, all things considered.
"Well, evolution is a theory. It is also a fact. And facts and theories are different things, not rungs in a hierarchy of increasing certainty. Facts are the world's data. Theories are structures of ideas that explain and interpret facts. Facts don't go away when scientists debate rival theories to explain them. Einstein's theory of gravitation replaced Newton's in this century, but apples didn't suspend themselves in midair, pending the outcome. And humans evolved from ape- like ancestors whether they did so by Darwin's proposed mechanism or by some other yet to be discovered."

Free will seems to be yet another illusion. Unless...you like the strings that control your decisions.
