They're only immortal in potential if something doesn't eat them though so I don't know if it counts.

Anybody know the Elvish translation to 'Better check yourself before you wreck yourself'? :p

Not true. God's law has been established.

You're assuming you can tell when you're being deceived by Satan by implying "God's law has been established". Circular reasoning 101.

Quote:
Quote:How does a fundamentalist Christian know that aren't deceived and should be Jews or Muslims, or Hindu's or whatever?
without the active comfirmation of god in your life, you don't just by looking on the surface.

More circular reasoning.

Quote:
Quote:I've been thinking about blogging on this point.

It seems that Christian demonology undermines Christianity because even if they say the evidence looks good to them they can't disprove that Satan is just deceiving them.
If 'satan's deception' brings them closer to God then how is his deception in his benfit?

Still committing the same fallacy by assuming you know when you're being deceived. Circular reasoning strike 3.

Quote:
Quote:Just as no one could really prove that Satan is not deceiving them when apologists make the claim that they are, Christians cannot disprove that they are deceived.
Again there is the matter of God's expressed will.

*God's* expressed will..? and you know it's God and not Satan's will how? Oh, right... circular reasoning.

Quote:
Quote:So since by their religious claims there is an equal chance that their religious claims are crap their religious claims are crap!
Again only if one is blind and deaf to the interaction between God and those who follow him.

And you assume this interaction is between *God* and those who follow him why? Circular reasoning, that's why.

I have to agree with FTR on this. We can't know we're not deceived. However, I don't see that as an issue, as Christianity is admittedly a faith-based religion. The charge of this thread is basically you can't prove the things you believe on faith, which is of course a NSS observation.

It's unjustified faith if the thing you're putting faith in is unverifiable; no different to believing that my lawn grows because unverifiable gnomes make it grow.

The verification comes through the internal witness of the Holy Spirit of course.

How does one have faith in a verifiable being, once verified faith flies out of the window.

God loves those who believe and those who do not and the same goes for me, you have no choice in this matter. That puts the matter of total free will to rest.

I suppose the real question would be why faith is necessary or good to have and if there are any unwanted side effects, psychological problems or delusions you could end up with. Would it lend you towards a greater tendency to gullibility or control by others? By deciding you already know what is true are restricting yourself or the knowledge we could potentially discover?

I can verify that the sun exists, but I don't know that it'll rise in the morning. In some respect, I suppose that I have faith that it will; reasonable faith, given the last few billion years of planetary rotation, but faith nonetheless.

I'd call that a reasonable expectation based on what you know.
