The problem is none of the arguments he makes hold true in much of the Islamic world. If the Hijab is all about getting to know a woman's real value, how come the middle east puts so much less value on their women than does the west? The idea that Islamic culture and the Hijab somehow makes women less of consumer goods is one of the most hypocritical things I've ever heard. What culture has more arranged marriages? What culture has less women allowed to attend school. Is it in the heart of west or the heart of the Muslim world where women can't go outdoors without a male escort. The author talks entirely in the hypothetical but we've seen how these things apply in real life and the Hijab is an utter failure when it comes to promoting womens rights or making people value women more. We can see that in reality, which that scholar clearly is ignoring.

The second thing to consider is just how incredibly insulting to men his whole hypothesis is. Men can't help but rape! Men can't help but judge based on looks. Men can't help but objectify women. It doesn't speak very well of his culture when that's how he perceives men.

You want to see a woman as a human being? Let her live as one. And the hijab does nothing for a woman's protection or worth.

I couldn't get pass the first two sentences of this video. But it's just what they've always said about the hijab, women's worth, blablabla. Women's worth isn't determined by men. She can do whatever she likes. If she wants to flaunt her sexuality in public that's no one's business but hers. I wouldn't tell a man he can't do that in public, I won't tell a woman she can't do that in public.

Adding to that rebuttal, I would remind that it is always the men who judge and condemn women for their dress. The man "husbands" his wives and daughters like a cattleman, they are his property. Like the west, the East also did not understand until modern times that women do in fact contribute DNA to their offspring. This is why it was silly to think of tracing your family line through your mother. A women was thought to be nothing but a fertile soil, a fertile womb, in which the man planted a seed. The ancient world had seen how plants grow from a seed and they assumed that men did likewise. This was the basis for eons of misogyny.
