In the summer we will give sunscreen and deodorant etc. I've made a lot of relationships with some of these people. It's incredibly easy to pass judgment on them, but when you take time to be personal with them, love them and listen to them it really hits home how they are just people like you and I and they are in need. Most of them just want to feel like a person again and these small items mean the world to them. To have a clean feeling mouth, clean feeling hair, basically just some human dignity that we all take for granted. I encourage everyone to not just give the homeless some spare change or dollars, but take a few minutes of your time and speak with them as a person. I find the conversations go a lot farther than the gifts for most of them.
THIS. This right here. This is what it should be about. This is helping humanity. I haven't repped you yet, but you clearly deserve it. Treating people like they are people. Your kids have an excellent role model in you and the fact that you do it on a monthly basis and not just once a year during the cold weather is awesome.
Thanks. We try to do as much as we can as often as we can. Winter months (especially in Michigan) are our busiest. We visit more often and try to coordinate with local shelters to get these people out of the cold. Some just don't want to, and some don't know where they can go so we help out by taking them to the shelter or have shelter volunteers connect with them. Like most major cities, we have a large homeless population, but we also have some incredible shelters and volunteers always willing to help out.

Seriously you guys are going to make me cry. It pains me to see the homeless and hear their stories. They didn't grow up on the streets. Most have stories of normal lives like most of us, and some hardship led to an incredible spiral. Some were because of addictions, a lot are veterans, which is even more sad. I listen to their stories, cry with them, tell them about myself and my family and let them know there are people that care about their well being and will do their best to be sure they are looked after.
Hell if we can do it for animals, we sure better do it for people.

Oh my god, you have no idea what kind of boiling I have inside my chest right now for you. I'm not flaming other members, you're just taking the things I say too seriously. I'm being diplomatic, believe it or not. I have a fucking burning hatred for human beings, but no one gives a fuck about me.
Well that's not true. I care. Honestly.

So this:
Quote:Oh look at me, I'm an awesome volunteer with children ooooooh
posted conveniently after someone posts a picture of their children packing up bags for the homeless and posting that they volunteer IS NOT flaming? Okay you delusional little shitstain. Feel free to continue with your kindergarten-like activities.
Whatever makes you feel better about yourself, man.
And you wonder why no one gives a fuck about you. Your posts paint the picture VERY clearly as to why.

I forget who it was that said it but they said "well no wonder no one likes you, judging by your behavior on this forum". I don't even fucking talk to anyone in person, I just have to gawk at all the smart, beautiful people who get by in life as if their charisma was some sort of magic. Here I am, not really the profile of what people would like, being told "I can't be your friend" "I'm putting you on block" "well no wonder no one likes you" as if it's just supposed to be some intrinsic common sense. Well you know what's common sense? My fucking destroyed dream that this world could ever be hospitable for someone like me. It's all a drive to see who can be the most beautiful, in this disgusting fucking rat race.

My fiancee and I almost found ourselves in a similar situation. Thankfully, he's gainfully employed, and I'm in school. We have the finances to support living in a motel until our townhouse is ready to move into. I will tell you though, it's been rough living like this. It's amazing the things you miss when you don't have your own house or apartment to live in. You miss things like the ability to go into another room for privacy, a fully functional kitchen, a sofa and your own bed. We have a little over two weeks to go until we move and I can't wait.
