Enjoying a light supper of brie, manchego, figs, smoked almonds and crackers. I wish I had some prosciutto, Serrano ham or even some salami.

What's everyone up to right now?

Gonna have to be on the look out for some manchego. Just looked it up and that sounds like a very tasty cheese.

It's amazing. It should not be difficult to find in your area.
Went to the gun range today, but my time was cut short by the gun getting to the point where it wouldn't fire. I'll have to take the trigger assembly apart and see what is going on. I did manage to set the sights on my new scope, though. After that, my son and I went and picked up a nice salmon filet that he proceeded to smoke. Tasty dinner that was, with a bunch of smoked vegetables and fresh watermelon!

A jammed gun is god’s way of telling you not to go on a rampage. Playing Cluedo with my mum while I was at Uni: "You did WHAT? With WHO? WHERE???" RE: What's everyone up to right now?

Get a 1155 compatible Xeon which, nowadays, might have a price lower than the i5 you were thinking of getting. RE: What's everyone up to right now?

Whether an i5 or an x3430, the total cost is comparable, yet the i5 is simpler, easier, and doesn't depend on overclocking. If I'm going to replace the entire guts of the system, I'm better off spending a little more and getting a Ryzen. Then in two years time, if I want to upgrade, I have a path available. Whereas the x3430 is simply a dead end. Regardless, I replace whole systems infrequently as it's difficult given my lack of fingers. A CPU upgrade is much more doable, just from a personal standpoint. And I certainly don't want to do a complete upgrade two times when I can get away with one. I don't like overclocking, either, particularly if you have to push the system bus significantly as they have done. I'm too old for this shit. This isn't a hobby for me anymore. My board won't rock a Xeon, AFAIK. Z77 chipset. (ETA: It seems that no Xeon is just Asus policy, making matching difficult. I'm running an Asus P8Z77-LE. Anyway, the i5 is comparable at stock. I think if I upgrade fully, given the hassle, the wise move would be the Ryzen, ne?) ![]() (July 30, 2018 at 4:30 am)Jörmungandr Wrote:(July 30, 2018 at 2:00 am)pocaracas Wrote: Then don't get that particular processor. These guys say that the Z77 supports a Xeon CPU, but not ECC RAM. They say that it does run, however, even with non-ECC RAM. At this moment, if you are to choose between a Ryzen and an i7, these guys say the i7 comes out cheaper and, for most operations, faster. Of course, if you opt for an 8th gen i5, you can always swap it out for an i7 in the future.
