What's everyone up to right now?

Well, technically a paralegal, but after it, I'm starting to see how difficult my case truly will be to win. Even with a serious sleep disorder that'd make a proper 9 to 5... very difficult to say the least, there are some bizarre threads that it keeps snagging on, like the fact that, before I turned 22, there wasn't much documentation of my problems (and the sleep disorder didn't even start until later). Or that, as far as the SSA is concerned, you evidently can't be both disabled after the age of 22 AND frugal. She said it might be a hard mountain to climb, but by the end of the chat, the mountain looked a lot more like K2.

I spent a lot of the evening decompressing and writing about The Lion in Winter for Anglotopia.

Good luck with your claim.

Which version of The Lion in Winter?

The original with Peter O’Toole and Katharine Hepburn.

Also: I noticed that Dad has moved the majority of the money in my bank account to a trust fund because, evidently, I can’t have both a severe sleep disorder that keeps me out of the workforce AND a lot of money saved up. At least not as far as the Social Security Administration is concerned, because Fuck America.

Left work early to beat traffic, learned that both late afternoon meetings are cancelled. About to light a cigar and have a moment of relaxation.

Going over the checklists for our Christmas getaway. Leaving tomorrow morning, back on Boxing Day.

Vacuum sealing frozen blocks of chili. The silicone molds I bought produce a 2-cup block roughly 3"x3"x8". That fits perfectly in pre-cut 8" vacuum seal bags.

Today I retired code for some software that I was the designer and practically sole coder for starting in 2000, it ran in production until last October. 171K lines of C code removed in a single commit. I'm kind of proud of it, it ran in production for 23 years and we haven't had to touch it for close to a decade.

I feel a bit old today.

I gotta know. What was it like dealing with the unwarranted hysteria around Y2K?

I'm curious if programmers of that era got inundated with requests for special software.

I was part of my employer's Y2K mitigation effort. The hysteria was unwarranted, sure, but there were systems that if not patched, would have undesirable results. What happened behind the scenes was risk analysis, testing, triage and mitigation. I was too busy doing my part of that to notice much else.

Having a nip of Jagermeister. I think I'll keep this bottle handy. Something to give me a quick pick-me-up on occasion.

Had to pick up a check from work again, signed it, and handed it over to the boyfriend to deposit it at an ATM. Apparently, and I only found out this morning, I was supposed to personally input my banking information after signing up for Paychex Flex. Would have been nice to know this weeks ago.
