I'm 42. I gave up religion at age 30.

It's true that older people tend to be more religious, and if you go to a church service you'll see that most of the people there are older, like 50+. And the younger generation tends to be less religious. This is what gives me hope for the future, because once the older religious people die off, there will be less need for religion in our society.
Christian apologetics is the art of rolling a dog turd in sugar and selling it as a donut.

I'm 40. Been an atheist my whole life. Both parents are atheists. I think the reason I'm not out front and center about is it because we lived in the southern US growing up and it just wasn't cool to say you didn't believe in the lord Jesus back then. Still isn't but was even worse then. So I grew up in an environment where you "keep quiet".

42 here and hating it. My eyelids fell down last week. On Monday they were fine, and on Tuesday they were old. Horrible.

My grandfather was a lifelong atheist and anti-theist until he died at 101, and he had a pretty cranky group of old non-believing friends. He couldn't figure out the internet, though, so you would not have seen him. Plus, he would have thought this much talking about religion was giving it too much credit.

Part of the over 50 crowd here. My folks aren't religious. We never went to church, and I never gave religion or god much thought until I took a history of religion class for a humanities elective sometime in my early thirties. That class made me realize all religions were invented by people, and there is probably no god. Interestingly enough that is the exact same way my brother got to the atheist position.

Knowledge is a subset of belief. As humans we believe things before we know them. We can't help it. Most of the time we don't wait for knowledge and then believe, its the other way around. Beliefs are more important because we act on them. Matt Dillahunty explains this quite well

'You can have all the faith you want in spirits, and the afterlife, and heaven and hell, but when it comes to this world, don't be an idiot. Cause you can tell me you put your faith in God to put you through the day, but when it comes time to cross the road, I know you look both ways.' - Dr House

“Young earth creationism is essentially the position that all of modern science, 90% of living scientists and 98% of living biologists, all major university biology departments, every major science journal, the American Academy of Sciences, and every major science organization in the world, are all wrong regarding the origins and development of life….but one particular tribe of uneducated, bronze aged, goat herders got it exactly right.” - Chuck Easttom

"If my good friend Doctor Gasparri speaks badly of my mother, he can expect to get punched.....You cannot provoke. You cannot insult the faith of others. You cannot make fun of the faith of others. There is a limit." - Pope Francis on freedom of speech
