Tomorrow is a tough day, after it's over let your emotions flow, they will honor the life of Pepper and help in you coming to terms of your loss.
Best wishes and you have my deepest understanding. GC
God loves those who believe and those who do not and the same goes for me, you have no choice in this matter. That puts the matter of total free will to rest.

I'm usually pretty good with words, but I've written this out four times and each iteration merely sounds trite and hollow. All I can say is you truly have my deepest sympathy, my friend.
I'm going to tuck this next bit away, as it contains personal reminiscenses which might be upsetting for everyone. Please don't anyone click if you don't want to read this.
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist. This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair. Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second. That means there's a situation vacant.'

I gave her some steak - she hasn't been interested in food for a while. She perked up (duh), ate some, and is resting with me on the couch. I'll save the rest for a little later. She seems comfortable. I guess that's all I can ask for at this point.
I want to thank all of you for the compassion that you've shown me since this all began. It means the world to me.
I wish I had the strength to thank all of you individually.

CD, we've all been through it and empathize with the dreadful pain you face. But as unbearable as it seems to be now, there will come a time when you are glad you did the right, responsible, kind and loving thing. Your beloved Pepper understands, too.
Here, holding your hand... with much sorrow for what you are going through. My constant companion (mini-Dachshund) is squeezed up against my leg as I type this, and believe me -- I get it.

Save your strength for Pepper. It's good to spend this time with her and to spoil her with the steak. Letting her go is another thing you're doing for her. You're a good friend to her.

I don't know if you have this story in your part of the world, but I love it- it's the best version of Heaven I've ever seen. Vets often put it on condolence cards, and I have put it here for you. I also wonder why a major religion has not formed around this idea, since if I could believe in any spiritual, after-death reality, this would be the one.
Quote:Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....
Man, do I wish this was true.

You might want to try some fried liver - works wonders for Naomi (my dog) when she's feeling bad
Caution reading the rest - there are some revolting parts

I'm sorry to hear that, CD.
Please give me a home where cloud buffalo roam
Where the dear and the strangers can play
Where sometimes is heard a discouraging word
But the skies are not stormy all day

You already have. If not in words, then in the simple act of being there for her.
