Especially don't read the gospels side by side as your rational brain won't be able to gloss over the contradictions between them.

But Aractus, I'm looking for an explanation as to why I should (or shouldn't) read in specific orders.
I'll just continue on my original path then.

I really only want to read it for the source material. Even though like I said I've read and heard many tid bits throughout the years, I simply want to read some now just to know the material. I already know that I would never believe in anything like some do that was written so long after the fact and by tons of people, and twisted hundreds of times......seems like the most unlogical thing anyone would want to believe in. Maybe I have trust issues!!! Hahaha! Blows my mind.

When I finally decided to read the bible I went to my local used book store and pawed through all the different ones until I found the cheapest option. I ended up with an NIV study bible that cost me about $5.
I also reference passages from the Skeptic's Annotated Bible which, I think is the KJV? I've also other translations online including biblegateway.com. When I read the bible I tried to focus on the story itself or what the passage was trying to convey and not get stuck on language as words can vary between translations and when in doubt I try and look up a spectrum of translations to see how well or badly they comport with one another. That's partly how I determined that whether you call them a slave or a servant doesn't matter, you were able to buy them, sell them or beat them until they almost die and that's fucking wrong no matter what.

I'll just continue on my original path then. Because it'll make it much easier to read. If you read Matthew and then Mark, you're re-reading everything you just read in Matthew. If you start at Genesis, you'll get bored halfway through Leviticus, and if that doesn't do it to you, Numbers will!
