Because the "safe thing to do" totally worked for the Indian Independence Movement and the American Civil Rights Movement.

Acceptance and fair treatment don't naturally happen, they need to be fought for.

Same here, my parents know I don't follow any religion but I haven't had the heart, the nerve or the brain to admit outright that I'm an atheist.

Archeologists near mount Sinai have discovered what is believed to be a
missing page from the Bible. The page is currently being carbon dated in
Bonn. If genuine it belongs at the beginning of the Bible and is believed to
read "To my darling Candy. All characters portrayed within this book are
fictitous and any resemblance to persons living or dead is purely
coincidental." - Newsreader in 'Red Dwarf 2: Better Than Life'

What will the future withhold for atheism?

Will it be like... the opposite of now? Where everyone nearly is atheist, and like 6% religious? lol

I'm very liberal with the kudos feature. I am trying to get away from Kudosing just for agreeing 80% of the way to Kudosing things i feel are worth reading/i feel deserve it. But I often feel the things I agree with are often written of that quality Smile Hehe Smile

Eventually there will be only very little organized religion. The future of atheism is bright Smile

Here in the UK, religion is hardly a problem. Just about everyone is non-religious. It's great!
I couldn't believe how bad it is over there. Almost my entire family are either atheists or agnostics. Only 2 members of my family are religious. Sometimes I hear a little religion on tv but it's rare. When I do hear of it, I either press the mute button or change channels. I'm sorry to hear it's so bad over there.
It's that rare to bump into religion here that door knocking religious freaks are very rare. The only other place I can think of that has even less religious nuts is sweden. A place I'd like to move to sometime in the future.Big Grin
Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence - Carl Sagan

Mankind's intelligence walks hand in hand with it's stupidity.

Being an atheist says nothing about your overall intelligence, it just means you don't believe in god. Atheists can be as bright as any scientist and as stupid as any creationist.

You never really know just how stupid someone is, until you've argued with them.

I heard that only 16% of Americans are non-religious, but that's the largest minority in the US. I hope that percentage keeps growingSmile
