I have mixed feelings about Christmas. I love getting together with my family and exchanging gifts, but I can't stand the music and the way it makes Christians behave so stupidly by whining about the war on Christmas. I hate that shit.

What's your opinion on the whole thing?
I do not celebrate Christmas. I find it as silly a holiday as all the others.

I just like noting the turning of the year. Solstice here means the worst of the summer weather is to come. Equinox -Autumnal, is when you can safely eat chocolate without it melting in you hand.
So, the fuss about Xmas? Meh. But the lights are pretty and the kiddies get all excited and the food and the family (who for me count as good friends) and non related friends coming round to drink beer and talk shit is fun.

What is there to like about Christmas???
My parents are religious fucktards.
Everyone in the US goes shopping for a month straight. It's a greed fueled embarrassment.
Everyone tends to be in a hurry and out of sorts. Most are downright rude.
The season is full of con artists and scams.
Selfish assholes are suddenly "full of charity" for exactly one month and then return to being sacks of repulsive shit when Dec 26th roles around.
The christards are always bitching about "christ being taken out of christmas" and attempting to ruin everyone else's in the process.
Suicide is at it's highest.
Politeness is at it's lowest.
Everyone is milking you for cash at every turn. Your kids school, your work, your friends - there's always some fucking event to do.
It's cold and snowy here in Michigan and car accidents are always up because so man idiots take the roads.
Christmas carols are played NON FUCKING STOP in this country for five GOD DAMN WEEKS STRAIGHT!! It could drive a person insane.
...oh and Jesus took over a perfectly good pagan holiday.
Fuck Christmas and fuck anybody who thinks that pretty little lights on a tree are a good reason to like a shitty fucking holiday.

Well I don't like it because it's religious I like it because it's a celebration of something. You know trees presents and all that. People seem happy.

Presents, Season's Greetings cards, annual newsletter to accompany cards, small family dinner, visits to or from family and friends we don't see too often. Could do without the endless xmas music.

Wunsbee!!!
How you holdin up?
I love Christmas! Love. It.
My love for it did not dim, either, when I became an atheist. My dad asked me if I was celebrating this year because I broke it to him this year. I said, why wouldn't I? I'm even painting a nativity set for my sister! She is the best Christian I know, and she loves me for who I am. I love her. I love her beliefs. She respects mine. I love everything about Christmas. It's a cool story, a baby birthday and all. My sisters daughter loves the idea of her stuffed animal being from the north pole and she moves it on her own to make me think it's magical--so I move it in return and she does think it's magical It's fun!
That said, I am getting slightly annoyed at how every graduation and school music program I attend for my family commences with, "Let's bow our heads in prayer". I mean, AWKWARD!!! I just don't. It's not like anyone will see, their eyes are shut
If I were to create self aware beings knowing fully what they would do in their lifetimes, I sure wouldn't create a HELL for the majority of them to live in infinitely! That's not Love, that's sadistic. Therefore a truly loving god does not exist!
Quote:The sin is against an infinite being (God) unforgiven infinitely, therefore the punishment is infinite.
Dead wrong. The actions of a finite being measured against an infinite one are infinitesimal and therefore merit infinitesimal punishment.
Quote:Some people deserve hell.
I say again: No exceptions. Punishment should be equal to the crime, not in excess of it. As soon as the punishment is greater than the crime, the punisher is in the wrong.

I love making the assholes whine about the War on Christmas. It's just one small reason why I still celebrate the holiday as an atheist. It was never about Jesus and the first place, and in my home, Jesus ain't the reason for shit in December.

Christmas is proof that religious people are better humanists than secular humanists.
