Oh right... I get paid a pittance working for the developmentally disabled in a not-for-profit environment because I don't believe and I stand around doing nothing. I wake up at 4:30 AM every morning so I can walk to the transit station at 6 AM to take the bus across town to work because I'm doing nothing. I volunteer as a SART advocate because I do nothing. I carry sweaters, handiwipes, toothpaste in my backpack to hand out to people in need because I'm doing nothing.

On this forum alone, we have non-believers who rescue animals... and a doctor, who, possibly to her own detriment, rushed to Africa to take care of her fellow humans. We have teachers and activists and parents; we have people who volunteer as AA sponsors and members of the military. There are scientists and novelists; artists and musicians... all because we all stand around doing nothing.

Fuck you, GC. I know it's not the first time I've said it, and probably won't be the last, but your condescension, arrogance, and total willful ignorance need to be put in their place.

All I have to say is what I replied to Valkyrie, read it please or stay out of a conversation that wasn't pointed toward you, you've set your sensitivity level to low.

The conversion wasn't for the church or for him.  It was to provide a narrative by which the authority of his office could be transferred, and a demoralizing example for any who might remain opposed to Spanish rule.

How do you suppose GC imagines charity happens in countries where Christians are a small minority?

Because we send it in, even into countries were Christians are killed just for being a Christian.

I don't have global numbers, but in Britain, Muslims give more to charity than any other group. By a lot. And not just proportionate to their income. More per Muslim, period (about 371 pounds, no one else over 200). Charitable giving is one of the Five Pillars of Islam.

I don't understand why you impute "offense" when all I'm doing is correcting you on an obvious misstatement of fact. Are you always this defensive about your charity? Why is that?

I accepted your correction and then pointed out that not all the money was going to Christian organisations, what's wrong with that, just was making sure no one thought all that money went to Christian organisations. I know how people like to read things into a conversation around here. 

Nor did I say all FBOs are Christians. I will, however, go on record as saying that if you need an invisible guy in the sky telling you to do right by other people, then keep your religion. Whatever it takes to get you to think about something other than your own fate, I'm cool with it.

Like I said above making sure others understood, some around here come into this place with blinders. I do not have to worry about my fate, Christ is my savior and I'm secure in this. if all I was worried about was my fate I certainly wouldn't be here.

Me, I don't need that higher power to know that I should rise above myself. Whatever. If you need it, use it.

You're always challenging people on what they actually do, and then getting schooled. I don't know about Thump, but I work with refugee children on Saturdays (at entirely my own expense), donate to CAMFED, make loans through KIVA, collect clothes for Sistercare, let a homeless vet live in my house for free from August through last month, and I feel like there are more things I could mention that aren't on the tip of my brain right now. The reason you keep getting schooled is that you lack the charity in your heart to believe people who don't believe the same things you do can be as charitable as you are.
