Poll for Christians: Are the End Times imminent?

We've got all these prophesies, and every single one has or will come true, don't you know? You just have to interpret the Word correctly. sand the corners of the square block, and it will surely fit the round hole.

I've had the "lost in translation" defense thrown at me over Matthew 24:34. They claimed that "generation" had a hidden meaning which means "the Jewish people." So as long as there are Jewish people on the earth, then his prophecy about "this generation shall not pass until all these things be fulfilled" still holds. At least in fundies' minds.

I don't suppose you have any proof this spiritual world exists, do you?

I've heard that it means this age, because people read a lot of astrological symbolism in the bible. For disproving reasons, it is better to pick something less ambiguous, like the Tyr prophesy, but people will likely find some way to wiggle out of that too.

One of my favorites is the one that predicts wars. There will be wars, and rumors of wars. Well no joke, Sherlock, especially if you're trying to spread a religion with the policy of convert or kill.

Our very own Godschild tried that, by comparing Tyre with Hiroshima. He said that Hiroshima was destroyed and a new city was rebuilt on top of the old one. Same with Tyre, the city we know as Tyre was rebuilt on top of the old one. Never mind that the "prophecy" stated that once Tyre was destroyed it would never be rebuilt. Never mind that the old city of Tyre was never actually destroyed. I was actually kind of disappointed with this lame explanation.

*ETA* Also in a similar thread Drich was arguing pretty much the same thing. The old city of Tyre was destroyed but another was built next to it.

The prophesy said it would be wiped from the world, and never be found again. I think it even said a certain person would do it. These things didn't happen.

You actually believe that?

Quote:He said that Hiroshima was destroyed and a new city was rebuilt on top of the old one. Same with Tyre, the city we know as Tyre was rebuilt on top of the old one.

But that is not what G-C's fucking god claimed, is it?

Quote:14 And I will make thee a bare rock; thou shalt be a place for the spreading of nets; thou shalt be built no more: for I Jehovah have spoken it, saith the Lord Jehovah.

15 Thus saith the Lord Jehovah to Tyre: shall not the isles shake at the sound of thy fall, when the wounded groan, when the slaughter is made in the midst of thee?

16 Then all the princes of the sea shall come down from their thrones, and lay aside their robes, and strip off their broidered garments: they shall clothe themselves with trembling; they shall sit upon the ground, and shall tremble every moment, and be astonished at thee.

17 And they shall take up a lamentation over thee, and say to thee, How art thou destroyed, that wast inhabited by seafaring men, the renowned city, that was strong in the sea, she and her inhabitants, that caused their terror to be on all that dwelt there!

18 Now shall the isles tremble in the day of thy fall; yea, the isles that are in the sea shall be dismayed at thy departure.

19 For thus saith the Lord Jehovah: When I shall make thee a desolate city, like the cities that are not inhabited; when I shall bring up the deep upon thee, and the great waters shall cover thee

There are times that I think G-C doesn't even read his own horseshit.

Most all prophecy has been completed, very little left and most of that is the event itself. Will not be a 22nd century as we know time. You might be surprised to know what's happening in Israel at this time.
Those looking forward to the end times are mostly those who believe in the rapture, if they knew what was really at hand they might not be so excited. I look forward to it because this world is in deterioration and it is not as pleasant place as it should be.

The thing about prophecy is that it tends to be so vague, eventually something will happen that someone can attribute to the prophecy. Even though the the prophecy and the event are not connected in any way.

Religious prophecy is nothing more than self-fulling prophecy.

How does one self fulfill the prophecy of Israel becoming a nation again after 2000 years. This has not happened to any other nation ever.

What prophecy? Where in the Bible does it specifically state "Israel will become a nation again after 2000 years"?
