This is the reason the Chrisitians I am friends with don't believe in Hell. They wouldn't worship a God that would send people to Hell. They laughed when I asked whether they believed Hell exists.

They would also say their version of Christianity is correct.

No, the widely accepted version of Christianity that comprises the mainstream Christian Church.

I agree with your friends on a basic level. But the question goes far deeper. You choose to "live in hell" all the time you choose death over life, or to do harmful stuff, as do I, and every other human. Is a kinda widely accepted fact, but one you choose to put in religious language so that you can shoot it down.

Would this be a Protestant accepted version of Christianity or a Catholic accepted version of Christianity? Smile

Sorry, I've no idea what you're talking about. What does "live in hell" mean? I don't "live in hell" because myself and my partner aren't married, yet the Church says that is wrong.

Some believe that satan reigns in the world for now, so this life is pretty close to hell.

You don't know what doing bad stuff that is detrimental to yourself is??

Your condemnation is your own.

Well it's lucky Hell only exists in the wild and rather perverse imagination of some Christians.

I should hope so. Honestly, good people tend to do good, and bad people tend to do bad, regardless of what group they belong to.

In my experience, these are usually people who have very little grasp of morality, and need rules they can follow. Ironically, they assume everyone to be the same, and in need of the same guidance.

The reason I'm skeptical about that point is Yahweh has a long, confusing and often contradictory list of rules to follow. The fact that everyone from Michael Moore to Fred Phelps can follow Jesus only shows you that Jesus is the imaginary friend who tells them to do what they already wanted to do in the first place.

Imagine someone saying, "You have no guide to morality but my imaginary friend tells me what's right and wrong." That's pretty much what Christians do.

No wonder people tend to be more moral without it.

Whenever I hear about Christian morality, I'm reminded of devout Christians like Albert Fish:

"Hamilton Howard "Albert" Fish[3] (May 19, 1870 – January 16, 1936) was an American serial killer. He was also known as the Gray Man, the Werewolf of Wysteria, the Brooklyn Vampire, the Moon Maniac and The Boogey Man.[4] A child rapist[citation needed] and cannibal, he boasted that he "had children in every state",[4] and at one time, stated the number was about 100. However, it is not known whether he was talking about rapes or cannibalization, less still whether he was telling the truth. He was a suspect in at least five murders during his lifetime. Fish confessed to three murders that police were able to trace to a known homicide, and he confessed to stabbing at least two other people. He was put on trial for the kidnapping and murder of Grace Budd, and was convicted and executed by electric chair.[5][6]"
