Forget about getting a girlfriend and focus on meeting a woman and becoming friendly. If it turns out that you two then hook-up, well great! BUT... focusing on getting a GF may be sending off "creep" vibes, thereby frustrating your efforts. Dunno

Ok, serious answer:

Be yourself, and don't play games. Treat women as you wish to be treated, and not like we are all alike. I tend to be friends with guys, build trust, and then it turns to something else if chemistry is there. Everyone's mileage varies.

In your case, you might try church camp. That's where I met my first girlfriend. Make sure you pick one that's co-ed before you let your parents know you're interested in going to church camp. They may guess your true motivation, but if you keep your trap shut, they are unlikely to inquire too closely. They want you hooked up with a nice Christian girl, after all.

Contention: Being in my late twenties now, I can say that I'm finally in a financial and independent frame of existence where I can cultivate all the things I liked that were "boy" things - including comics and video games. I wasn't allowed to have those things as a kid. I don't do it to make myself more attractive to men. It just happens that many women reach a point of independence and lack of give-a-fuck during that age.

And baseball sucks, but I do like watching a good football game.
