Care to tell us exactly what this something might be and about what it's worth? You're the one that's sad? Your posts are nothing but a huge disappointment to everyone reading them. We ask you straightforward questions, and yet you seem to always see fit to sidestep or completely dodge the issues entirely. You're the one that made the decision to come here and say the things you say; you cannot dictate how we will respond. I hate to break it to you, but if you're getting this much pushback from so many members, perhaps the problem you're having doesn't rest within us, but you're too dishonest to take a closer look at the things that you're actually saying. I understand if you wish to remain silent in regards to my posts to you, but the longer you avoid answering these types of challenges, the harder it will become for you to be heard at all. Skepticism is not a position; it is an approach to claims.
Science is not a subject, but a method. RE: What do you hate about religion?

Do you have any evidence that shows Bad Writer to be "gutless" or are you just pillowing your opinion with unfounded assertions? I wouldn't be surprised, you do it with everything else so why not with an insult? (March 20, 2014 at 5:50 pm)psychoslice Wrote: Yea, no one fucks with psycho the slice lol. I thought as much.
I don't like the tribal mentality promoted by religions.
And it seems like it's a lot of self deception to me. Are you ready for the fire? We are firemen. WE ARE FIREMEN! The heat doesn’t bother us. We live in the heat. We train in the heat. It tells us that we’re ready, we’re at home, we’re where we’re supposed to be. Flames don’t intimidate us. What do we do? We control the flame. We control them. We move the flames where we want to. And then we extinguish them. Impersonation is treason. (March 18, 2014 at 1:02 am)tor Wrote: Most people don't rally against religion for no reason. Say what is that about religion that you specifically dislike. I entirely agree with all of these, but as I address what I dislike in religion I want to try and suggest these answers, for I have found myself sifting through these same questions as well: First of, any religious person who holds the view you stated needs to put down their faith for a minute and really think about these things seriously, and honestly. Then see where they end up. "A belief that god can prevent evil but chooses not to and is still a good god" - It's not even that he can prevent evil, but get this, he knew this would happen and yet ALLOWS evil to be a part of existence. It honestly bothers me. I have found some peace thinking of it like this: Allow suffering to speak. Allow evil to be heard. Sure, its bad, and shouldn't happen. But it did. So something is wrong. Something deep within either us, or God. I am currently still exploring this. "Sexual oppression of the mind(saying that healthy things are wrong which causes people to be ashamed of themselves and their thoughts for no good reason and also can cause mental illness)." - To make an argument consider this: It's not that God wants to repress us sexually, but rather make life simpler. Having only one sexual partner does simplify life quite a bit (I'm sexually active and wish I wasn't sometimes). If you are sexually active, you're not doomed to "hell" and any Christian who says specifically, "You are a sinner! You're doomed!" they can taste their own medicine dripping ironically from their own mouth. "Hell threats(as if I deserve it more than them)." - That's just unacceptable, and ignorant. And if it is true they are simply along for the ride themselves. "Thanking god for good things I do and good things I get(tired of hearing this shit)" - This one I've had a change of heart about recently. I've looked at it like this: I go about my day sometimes bored, and ungrateful, not seeing the many blessing that are around me (I was born free, I have healthy parents, I'm better off than third world countries, and I did nothing to deserve any of this). So its not that I'm waking up bowing down 100 times, saying 1000 prayers and hopping on one leg (as some religious people might expect, give or take a hyperbole or two). But rather reminding myself when I get caught up in the routines of day-to-day, not to become blind to the beauty around me. (And then my Christian beliefs naturally lead me to being thankful to God without obligation). "Also I'm tired of religious people looking at me as an abomination when I say I don't believe in a god. Go fuck yourself seriously. Also I am tired of people who think religion is a solution for everything and if I have any sort of problem it's because of my atheism." - I clump both of these together because there is honestly no way around them. In this case, you're in the right. And I don't stand for it one bit. "Also I'm fucking tired of religion constantly popping up in movies and music." - Me and you both friend It's poor quality, and masturbatory. But as a Film Production Major, I personally do believe that everyone has a right to voice their beliefs in their work. And I believe the adapting of bible stories or anything really, is a noble intention in itself. Even if its altogether poor quality. The creator will just have to be prepared to deal with the appropriate consequences especially if they're not being honest about their own beliefs on the topic, and presenting it in a propagandistic way. I personally try to avoid those type of projects at all cost. "Also tired of the idea that only meaning that is possible is by believing in gods plan or whatever(how did they come up with this shit?)." - I believe any Christian who has said hasn't really thought through what they are actually trying to say, and in result make themselves sound ignorant (unless they were like that to begin with...). I believe if one thinks that if meaning stems from life then they have to come to do one of two things: redefine the word "meaning" or come to the conclusion that a mind brought forth meaning since you cannot having meaning without someone to endow it. And chances are it'd be more likely to choose the prior. As far as theodicy...I agree, it's frustrating. Confirmation bias is frustrating. And to try and defend this point would alone discredit what I'm saying. I think if Christians don't know what they are talking about they need to be honest. After that... I really just don't know! Sorry about the long response! |
