Ivy's Closet- A video for my family

RE: Ivy's Closet- A video for my family
I rarely watch videos, so I will simply respond to the picture.

Grow those bangs out!

Sorry, had to state it. Bangs annoy me, because I see no real purpose to them. Bangs are useless.

lol I still remember the time you told me that for the first time. Nope! They are a part of me. Actually... I will trim them a bit tonight.

You did a wonderful job, Ivy. You are an incredible person. You said what you did with grace, dignity, and composure.

If I were your parents, I'd be proud to have such a strong woman for my daughter.

Reason? Most people here are conservative. You can't be vocal and hide. Here, people do care. There's no yawning. There's either acceptance (and you most likely join a LGBTQ support group), or there's gossip and discrimination. I'm in a sucky town.

And thanks. ♥

yeah, I had read it...

I guess if at least one person has time to watch it and give me an opinion, it would be great. I have been participating in LGBTQ rights activism and am getting ready to dive into it deeper. Before I do that, however, I want people to stop thinking I'm an ally. It's funny that they still think that, since I have been pretty vocal about my ideas, my tattoo on my back is pretty darn clear, and I wouldn't deny the truth if they asked.

The thing is that my parents came to visit last weekend and commented on a rally I will be attending. They made a few comments that I'm kind of hoping means they don't already know, because if they do and said that anyway... it would break my heart. My family was fundie for as long as I can remember. My brother and I are the only atheists. I have talked some sense into my parents and they are no longer theists, but do consider themselves deists. My sister is still a fundie. She is the one that I am worried about, because I might end up losing all contact with her.

The thing is that I'm truly passionate about defending lgbtq rights and standing up for equality. This has become a very important part of my identity. I have come to the determination that nobody, not even my family, will stop me from speaking up. I have witnessed enough discrimination, that if I stayed silent, I'd be ashamed of myself.

Keep in mind that I made this video for my parents and sister, so some things seem personal, like when I speak about growing up and memories. I was trying to help them remember I'm no stranger.

This video goes over the fact that I'm atheist and bisexual.

Send this video to your entire family. GO. DO IT RIGHT FUCKING NOW FOR FUCK'S SAKE. DO IT.

Watched it. Good job, you obviously weren't working from notes but managed to keep a steady and confident tone for the whole 13+ minutes, which is no small feat. Sounding confident and determined will make a lot of difference to those you intended it for. Good luck with it.

PS: You're Ivy to me. Evie is the name of the woman who broke my heart some ~9 years ago during a time in my life when I grew up a whole lot. There's not enough room in the world for another Evie. Smile
"Well, evolution is a theory. It is also a fact. And facts and theories are different things, not rungs in a hierarchy of increasing certainty. Facts are the world's data. Theories are structures of ideas that explain and interpret facts. Facts don't go away when scientists debate rival theories to explain them. Einstein's theory of gravitation replaced Newton's in this century, but apples didn't suspend themselves in midair, pending the outcome. And humans evolved from ape- like ancestors whether they did so by Darwin's proposed mechanism or by some other yet to be discovered."
