At what age did you become an atheist?
#21
RE: At what age did you become an atheist?
I was born an atheist, quickly imprinted and then brainwashed into Christianity. I followed the ridiculous teachings of primitive douche bags until the age of 19. Around 22 I declared myself an atheist but it didn't take. Throughout the remainder of my 20s I studied religion and even seriously considered Buddhism after a couple years of endorsing native american spiritualism. Eventually I found my own beliefs suited me the best and considered them closest akin to Deism.

I sure like atheism though. Big Grin

Started doubting seriously in my late 20s. I was able to admit that I no longer believed when I was 31.

I was around 11 when I started questioning my beliefs(I was Catholic). For some weird reason for a whole year I believed in the Greek gods. Then I saw that was silly and stopped believing in any gods. It wasn't until I was 13 I realized what Atheist is. And at 16 after a few months I came out the closet Atheist. I'm still 16 btw Tongue

Late 20 to 31 isn't 11 years. It's like 3. Lol

During my first 10 years of life, I didn't care.people said there was this god thing and I went with it... so maybe I believed them.
Then, when I was 10, I had one of the best ideas in my life... after listening to some news on the radio that there were images of something happening in some remote village in China, I thought, "damn, they have cameras everywhere! Hmm, you know what else is everywhere? God... how come her never shows up for the cameras?" And that was it.
So my vote goes for that age group.

Shaggy already got it: late twenties. It was actually two years, though.

As for why: the first year-and-a-half, I was trying to get myself believing again. I always had and assumed that it was correct and the problem must be with me. After that period, I got to the point where I really couldn't believe it anymore, and yeah, there was about a six month period where I couldn't admit to myself that I didn't believe because I was afraid of hell.

I got over that when I realized that I'd never lost any sleep about going to Muslim hell for not following the five pillars of Islam, so why was I worried about this hell?

I stopped being a Christian at around 10, then became an atheist at 12. The two years between I went from Christianity, to "God doesn't care", to "God is dead", to deism, and finally to atheism.
