People have tried to, but the brilliance messes up the picture, even with the backlight on.

Well then how can I look at what I'm going to miss?

So keep your bridge, actually you should join m on this free bridge to new life.

Christianity costs a person a lot. To get nothing. That's the greatest fallacy of all. That Christians believe they are "gaining" eternal life for "free" (because Christ paid the price) but the opposite is true. You are losing touch with solid reality so you can waste your time wallowing in a lie.

Whoever thought it up (and it wasn't "God") was nothing short of a genius. Not only could such a person(s) convince tons of people of this lie, but money (a lot!) has been made off the lie!

Salvation is a gift through grace from God, now I do not pay for gifts given to me and grace is unmerited love meaning there is noway to earn salvation, seems to be quite free to me. As far as whither I'm wallowing in a lie, death will reveal the truth to all.

God loves those who believe and those who do not and the same goes for me, you have no choice in this matter. That puts the matter of total free will to rest.

That seems to be the original meaning of the term in the old testament, where there does not seem to be any talk of an afterlife, aside from those (like Enoch) who get taken to heaven. The heavens, to those early writers, was either the dome that stretched over the Earth, or incorporated it as part of an unseen structure "behind" the sky. Earth was described as god's "footstool" which could indicate a relative position (it was "beneath" the heavens).

The new testament (Revelation, mostly) fleshes out the idea of heaven as a location that can be described in human terms, with a throne and homes and land and rivers and such. I don't think I ever considered it to be that way literally, but as a JW (who with few exceptions look forward to a future on Earth, not in heaven) it didn't matter much to me. The notion was that being in god's presence was so overwhelmingly pleasant that it didn't really matter whether it was clouds with a golden gate or a city built from jewels or anything else.
"Well, evolution is a theory. It is also a fact. And facts and theories are different things, not rungs in a hierarchy of increasing certainty. Facts are the world's data. Theories are structures of ideas that explain and interpret facts. Facts don't go away when scientists debate rival theories to explain them. Einstein's theory of gravitation replaced Newton's in this century, but apples didn't suspend themselves in midair, pending the outcome. And humans evolved from ape- like ancestors whether they did so by Darwin's proposed mechanism or by some other yet to be discovered."

Not really, God has to invite you and you must register through Jesus Christ, like it or not it's the only way.

So God chooses who to invite? What about those poor souls that don't get invited? And what about those of us he failed to keep? Doesn't seem very right now does it?

Well, that's not a very productive in a discussion, if we all have to wait until you're dead.

I was once Christian, and this is not true. I was once taught that God, in his mercy, can 'accept' anyone. If heaven exists, not only Christians will be there.

I'm suddenly reminded of this song, with all of this conversation.

Now that I'm an atheist, I can't help but wonder if the Bible in so many words, infers that heaven is space? If you are religious, "where" do you believe heaven is? What is it? (your opinion is fine, but if you could describe how you arrived at that, it would be good) I'm not looking for necessarily a logical discussion about the after life because there is no evidence for it.

All those questions imply the idea that we have a soul and theres an afterlife.
How can you expect us to locate a place that we don't accept is exists in the first place?

My Holy book or as some of us call it Google Maps says that Heaven is located in: 10236 Charing Cross Road, Los Angeles, California. And if you want a description it says here that The Playboy Mansion has a gothic revival architecture.

No, they don't.

read the thread title. the thread is addressed to religious people. if non religious people wish to post, they're welcome, of course. but, the thread was aimed at religious people giving their opinion as to ''where'' they believe heaven is located.
