Yes, I've set my own dividing line.

2. It's not about how big the umbrella is, but whether or not the size changes depending on the situation. I don't talk about 'true' atheists. Outside of not having a belief in gods, there are no traits any other atheist must share with me in order to be every bit as 'true' an atheist as I am.
Er, yes, there are differences between a belief and a lack of a belief.

Agreed. Don't see your point though.

They are all highly similar and originate from the same nonsense. Neither are truer than each other, being that none are true anyway.

I note with the mention of the Mormons in this thread that Mormonism has schismed over 100 times. Some of the branches are defunct, but many are still around.
If you wanna get a blank stare from the LDS missionaries, ask them what if the Gibsonite's or the Restoration Church of Latter Day Saints have a more accurate version of Mormonism than theirs.

What is funny is that people would expect "one single answer".
People that need this one answer or quite defective. Its like making everybody eat one flavor of ice cream.

Yeah, and that reason is that the only real justification for believing in it is that you want it to be true.
Quote:Yes, I've set my own dividing line.
And in doing so, you've invented your own religion and are attempting to define your god's desires according to your own preferences.
Quote:Er, yes, there are differences between a belief and a lack of a belief.
Those differences are what makes belief an inferior way to go.
Quote:Agreed. Don't see your point though.
The point is that atheism can be defined succinctly and it is not open to interpretation whether one is, or isn't. Christianity is so fragmented that none of it actually means anything.

I wasn't expecting "one single answer" because I'm well aware that some Christians think that other Christians aren't real Christians. I was just interested in seeing what the Christian members of the forum think about the divisions because they see things differently to atheists.

Are you saying that Christians see Christianity the same way as atheists do? After all, how many atheists would use theology and the Bible to 'prove' that some versions of Christianity aren't really Christian?

I did a bit of research. Atheists Seek Chaplain Role in the Military
Quote:Atheist leaders acknowledge the seeming contradiction of nonbelievers seeking to become chaplains or receive recognition from the chaplain corps. But they say they believe the imprimatur of the chaplaincy will embolden atheists who worry about being ostracized for their worldviews.
Military atheist leaders say that although proselytizing by chaplains is forbidden, Christian beliefs pervade military culture, creating subtle pressures on non-Christians to convert.
As an example, they cite the Army’s Comprehensive Soldier Fitness program, created to help soldiers handle stress and prevent suicide. The program requires soldiers to complete surveys assessing emotional, social, family and spiritual well-being. Based on their answers, some soldiers are asked to take “resiliency” training.
Atheists say the survey and training are rife with religious code words that suggest a deity or afterlife. The Army counters that the program is intended to determine whether a soldier has “a strong set of beliefs, principles or values” that can sustain him through adversity — and not to gauge religiosity.
Atheist and secular humanist groups in the military are hardly new. But at some bases, they have become better organized and more vocal in recent years.
Stanford University has now got a chaplain for atheists.
Quote:"People are shocked when I tell them," Figdor said. "But atheist, agnostic and humanist students suffer the same problems as religious students - deaths or illnesses in the family, questions about the meaning of life, etc. - and would like a sympathetic nontheist to talk to."
It's not so silly from that point of view. If an atheist needs help in coming to terms with something they won't appreciate being sent to someone who will talk to them about God and faith etc.

The word " version "may be somewhat misleading.
Religion follows the tribe. Protestant reformation was more about Germanic resistance to Latin hegemony.
Luther varied little from the basic Christian tenets but inspired an economic revival and revolution, that is still felt today.
Christianity has the trappings of a religion but ,depending , it can also be a call to fight and struggle. This ,in the final analysis
brings Christians together ,once they are sufficiently inspired to take action.
Which denomination is correct depends more on your geography than teachings.
