Death Penalty

Not arguing on the death penalty, but the problem with your suggestion is that the number of people killed may not necessarily mean a more serious crime. A single barbaric death can be more serious than 5 simple murders depending on the circumstances.

In my opinion, it is more of a punishment to let them live long enough to see what they did wrong, than to give them the rest of death.

No I mean only 5 people would be sentenced with the death penalty.

In Japan it's only 1 person per year sometimes not even that, I'm still against it but hey it's preferable to executing 300 a year

I'm willing to admit that no system is perfect, but as long as mistakes are few and ever shrinking, than we're doing something right.

You are inventing conditions which have no basis in reality.

I'm not sure what you mean there. Are we not getting better at figuring out who is really guilty?

RE: Death Penalty
Of course not.

When a prosecutor decides to do a little grandstanding by seeking the death penalty he has the full weight of the state and police departments behind him.

The defendant usually ends up with an overworked public defender.

Do you think that is even-handed?

If there's a problem with getting overworked defense attorneys, then that's a problem that needs dealing with.

There's not alot of money in defending poor black people Chad. In the meantime though, while we fix these problems (not likely anytime soon) ...maybe we ought to keep our hands off the axe?

There is no cause. You simply can't be 100% certain.

And anything less than 100% certainty in regards to capital punishment should be 100% unacceptable, even if you think it's okay for the state to carry out vengeance killing in the name of 'justice'.
