Unfortunately, in that same post it seems you committed the genetic fallacy. You state, "What's his background in biology? Yep, when I want opinions on matters of biology (the nature of life), I'll ask a mathematician or philosopher." This is the genetic fallacy because you undermine the information based solely on where the information comes from not the content. For example, if a homeless man walked into a university say, a hundred years ago and said he came up with the theory of relativity. It would not matter that this came from a homeless man the statement would be correct or incorrect on its own accord, not his"

A better example of a Genetic fallacy is: "bill states the one plus one equals two, however bill has never taken a math class in his life, therefore he must be wrong"

for the Genetic fallacy to be applicable, Arthur, it must be an axiomatic truth such as 1+1=2. clearly by this very post (and the simple fact that abortion is allowed)the contention that a zygote is a human being isn't. if someone has an extensive background in biology and they agree with your premise it helps your case to site them.

best of luck

I am going to trust a geneticist over a house mom who sits on the couch all day watching stupid reality shows.

Arthur, your example is extremely white and black but doesn't include the Grey reality we live in. "Temporary discomfort"? your undermining the excruciating pain that most if not all women go through with such a ostensible phrase. my question to you is this: if the unborn child was killing the mother and she was going to die because of the unborn child, and the unborn child was going to live would she be obligated to die in order for the child to live? my point is, there are many cases where it isn't just "temporary" discomfort-- its life or death. in these instances we should assess these situations (through normative ethics) and see which options is the most viable.

I'm liking the way you think. I agree that abortion is morally undesirable. That is what makes it difficult for the women who have to decide what to do when they have an unwanted pregnancy. As far as I'm concerned, morality is about the question "what shall/should I do?" What shall we do is a question about justice and the law. Women have enough to deal with without pushing their rightful choice into the realm of laws.

I always wonder if I'm a horrible person with no morals. If I were to ever become pregnant I would have an abortion. There would be no moral dilemma and I'm as certain as I can be (no one can know for sure if it hasn't happened) that I will not feel a single ounce of guilt. If I were to somehow decide I wanted to have another child (fat chance) that would be a moral dilemma for me. I would have to spends months thinking about it and deciding if it would be morally wrong for me to risk my life when I have 3 other children who need me, or spread my time, energy, love, and finances by adding a fourth child. Those are real moral dilemmas to me. An abortion, to me, would be no more of a moral dilemma than having tubal litigation. Maybe my morals are off, I don't know.

I would do the same thing in your position.

Yeah, I mostly just nod that it is a burden to choose but if I were a woman knocked up and tapped out, I don't believe I'd lose any sleep over it really.

What's with the lecture, dude. Everyone here has google. Just say "That's a genetic fallacy."

There is nothing at all wrong with your morality. Bringing children into the world is the single largest responsibility any of us take on. Choosing not to add to the burden of responsibility you already have is something I wish many others could figure out.
