"....I knew a couple of Christians once, who...." blah, blah, BLAH! It's a pretty effective way for believers to bolster one another's faith, I think. I can recall numerous of the dozens of stories that JWs would tell one another, which amount to little more than urban legends. They were always at least third-person accounts of how a pair of JWs could preach in dangerous neighborhoods (because unbeknownst to them, they were being accompanied by a large angel that everyone else could see) or how a JW who partook of the bread and wine the first time seemed to glow with a heavenly light, and so on. There were literally dozens of them, if not hundreds.
And then there were the "personal" experiences which were often wide open to interpretation even though it was safe to assume that the person telling it was embellishing it to some degree. Hear these kinds of stories day in and day out, and you marvel at just how involved god is with his followers and with the world in general. It convinces you that anyone who doesn't experience god must just not be looking for him, or deliberately deceiving himself and dismissing clear evidence of his involvement with humanity.
"Well, evolution is a theory. It is also a fact. And facts and theories are different things, not rungs in a hierarchy of increasing certainty. Facts are the world's data. Theories are structures of ideas that explain and interpret facts. Facts don't go away when scientists debate rival theories to explain them. Einstein's theory of gravitation replaced Newton's in this century, but apples didn't suspend themselves in midair, pending the outcome. And humans evolved from ape- like ancestors whether they did so by Darwin's proposed mechanism or by some other yet to be discovered."

In any case, "I knew a couple of Christians once" is a gross misrepresentation of what I said (assuming the retort was directed at me), thus ironically reinforcing the theme of this thread. Perhaps I ought to reiterate the part where I said they are friends of mine, very old friends at that; they were the ones who got my Sam and I together. They're gonna love reading this.

No, just making a GENERALIZED point. How does it feel?
What [is] a GROSS misrepresentation.... is that ALL Christians lie.
Actually, to be perfectly honest, all men lie. There's some generalized truth for you.
... but, it's a childish lie on the part of anti's to continually make broad, sweeping statements ( not just in this thread) about ALL Christians, and especially Catholics. When [you know] in fact it does not represent the vast majority of the community. As a matter of fact, it more resembles your figures here: one, three... "a couple". NOT BILLIONS! Or, even millions.
It doesn't matter to you, or anyone here that "most" Christians go about the world doing good, and helping their fellow humans.... atheists included! Because being hated isn't a deal breaker for them. They love, and do good; for goods sake.
But, that isn't news worthy is it? That isn't a good reason to hate us, huh?
So basically, you are lying to yourselves, and to each other. In the supreme effort to bring ALL Christians down. Because you: "don't like it". "want it", or "don't need it". Well.... WE DO!
You know what? We don't "like" you guys either. But, we do love you! Because no matter how you act, or what you say, or what you do.... you were created in God's image. And He deserves better. We love whatever of God that is still left. No matter how small. No matter how hidden. Its still there. That's our real "motive". To find Him in EVERYTHING! Ironically, even [in] an atheist forum.
Genesis 1:27 So God created humans in [His image]. In the image of God he created them. He created them male and female.

Although your shrill, preachy whining about persecution is as hilariously over the top as ever, it's also as inaccurate as ever: nobody here has even used the phrase "all Christians," so...
I know leaping to conclusions fit to justify your need to constantly be the victim is sort of your thing, but you could at least try to read the thread before you do. As it stands, you've just doubly reinforced Stimbo's point by telling a falsehood about how you told a falsehood, evidently striving for some kind of meta double reacharound lie.

I don't... are you getting at anything cogent? Or have you just mistaken sneering mockery as a rebuttal again?

When it's the only card you're holding, you have to play it for all it's worth. Some of us seem to forget that all these conversations, for want of a better word, are a matter of record; anyone can scroll back through them at leisure and read for themselves the context of every single word. Pulling the old “last-minute gear switcheroo“ isn't an option that works.
Also for the record, my employment of the phrase “a couple“ couldn't have been more accurate and was actually chosen precisely because of that - they are indeed a couple, having been married for around six or seven years now and together for nigh on twenty.

I don't like assumptions! That's all you ever do. Stop making them and I'll talk to you... otherwise take a hike!

Ok! I can, and will agree with you! But, if you open that door expect my rebuttal with [obvious] facts....
...Just as I would expect them from you!
And thanks for the clarification.... "couple" was handy at the time.
