This is simply fascinating shit and once again, as predicted, Governor Shitferbrains of AZ was on the news last night demanding the border be "secured."
But the reality of what is going is on is probably too much for her tiny little brain.

Ramos said she decided to make the trek to the United States after hearing reports "that parents will not be detained in the U.S. if they arrive with a child."
Again, they are walking up to the border and turning themselves in. Unless you want to shoot them on sight how much more "secure" can you make it?
Big problem, of course, is that we can't handle the numbers.

I'm guessing that his Assholiness would prefer a minefield or machinegun nests, though.

All I want them to do is say what they mean by "secure the border." Do we station the whole army shoulder-to-shoulder along the border? Might keep them from getting into trouble overseas. But all they do is utter this meaningless phrase.

One angle on this is to interpret "securing the border" as another federal boondoggle jobs program (see also: DEA).

You expect much from politicians.
It's entirely possible that they don't mean anything beyond: "Look, I'm doing something, but the big mean feds won't do what I ask them to do."
A good part of the AZ citizenry wants something done to secure the borders. Perhaps Joe Politician knows that there's not a hell of a lot that can be done (you know, besides shooting border crossers), but he can score political capital and probably re-election by having the appearance of making a stand to the big bad federal government.

Change the constitution in this atmosphere? You'd end up with the NRA demanding that every kid born here be issued a gun.

It just seems a little shortsighted if some woman can get pregnant in another country, rush over here, have the baby in a US hospital, and suddenly the child is an american. But that's what amendments are for.
Though I will admit we probably have greater economic problems than this, such as corrupt rich people buying politicians.
