I see the same from atheists who want to label historic atheists as Christians simply because A. they were raised Christian and B. want to pin their actions on religion.
C. never indicated lack of belief in God, D. never disassociated themselves from Christianity. E. Even indicated a committment to Christianity, and F. even if they weren't a Christian, that doesn't make them an atheist. Only one thing makes someone an atheist: not believing any deities are real. Full stop.
I'm not anti-Christian. I'm anti-stupid.

I live in Britain so in everyday life I don't encounter christians that often, however I did get it in the neck when I got outed as an atheist at my former workplace (Mental Health Centre) by some of the service users.
Of course being an atheist is less visible than being transgender or transvestite, (Including one man who was just wearing a kilt) I saw at least half a dozen of them get hounded out of the Centre.
The people doing the discrimination were all either Jesus Army or Baptists.
Oddly because doing my job I had to get to know the service users I knew that non-believers outnumbered the vocal christians at least 3 to 1 but you would get the opposite impression from just listening to the service users talking amongst themselves.
