Cookies and brandy would probably be a lot more useful during a night of flying around in freezing weather and climbing up and down chimneys.

Well, yeah. If you look at the old stories, what happened if you were bad? Someone else would deliver switches so the kids could be spanked. What's the Bible's policy on misbehaving children? Spare the rod, spoil the child.

Satan, trying to bribe kids to do good is a direct contradiction to the edicts given out by Almighty God (never the carrot; always the stick).
