I'd suggest taking reports from Fox News with a grain of salt.

First of all, do the written answers provide a complete depiction of what the school taught? Are the answers given there the only ones acceptable in the class? I doubt it, given that a lot of it is incomplete.

Secondly, the questions are non-judgmental. They ask for factual details about geography, history and culture without any inherent bias. The open-ended questions about internal conflicts, status of women and classes in society don't enforce a necessarily positive view. Any white-washing and disneyfication is apparent in the answers - not the questions - and you can't blame the school for that without establishing those answers as a comprehensive representation of what it teaches.

Third issue is the question of religion being taught in the school - except, teaching the motivating beliefs and culture is significant to a history class. I'd expect them to teach the values of Catholicism and how the Protestants and the Anglicans differed when teaching the history of Europe.

And lastly, why exactly was the father "banned"? How did he "object" to this homework assignment?

Any white-washing and disneyfication is apparent in the answers - not the questions - and you can't blame the school for that without establishing those answers as a comprehensive representation of what it teaches.

Wow, that's a very generous interpretation of events. But there is in fact bias in the questions e.g. why no questions about Muhammad's gruesome deeds? Because it's Disneyland. And a few of the answers (Mohammed's forgiveness of the Meccans, jihad means struggle, and the treatment of minorities) are only partially true and whitewash the whole gruesome truth. This shows they have in fact been brainwashed by the teachers. The questions generally lean towards (a) Mohammed was a kind and forgiving man and (b) Islam means peace and tolerance. It's obvious.

The exception might be the women question, we don't know, but it won't be the full ugly truth that women are in "bulk" in hell because they disobey their husbands, and that Mohammed was cool with wife beating, and raping slave women on the same day as killing their husbands.

And common sense tells you that virtually no school in the Western world would countenance frank views about Islam. They would run a millions miles from that topic.

And lastly, why exactly was the father "banned"? How did he "object" to this homework assignment?

He was allegedly acting in a "threatening" manner. But who cares, the point is about Islam, not the parent.

The test does not address the ugliness in Islam or its history, so it is clearly a biased, dumbed-down version of history. High school students are old enough to hear the true story.

I'm all for teaching about religions in a world history class. The truth would convince many students of the danger, the divisiveness, the horrors that they bring.

Unfortunately, that father did not take advantage of what could have been a teaching moment - but he's a Christian and was blind to the opportunity presented.

The point of teaching alternative religions in school is to get people to be more tolerant of other faiths so by posing a rosy view of islam they are doing their job.
