Religion is unneeded, unnecessary, and a detriment to us all in the modern era. Superstition, including but certainly not limited to the barbaric notions of a blood sacrifice and original sin, will die out in favor of reason and logic. I may not live to see it, but I have hope that humanity will one day - even if it is centuries from now - transcend this inclination toward the supernatural to explain existence and the delusion of a paradise after death.

Of course, even if religion has died out, that alone does not give us a utopia. Positive values needed to be added on top of this reign of "reason and science" in order to nit simply create a tribalistic hellhole which is also atheistic.
The fool hath said in his heart, There is a God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good.

There would be no overnight transformation. It'd be a damn fine start though.

Two Christian denominations until they're faced with atheists (the common enemy).
Playing Cluedo with my mum while I was at Uni: "You did WHAT? With WHO? WHERE???"
I thought we were the enemy? You know, atheist with their war on everything sacred and holy? Just waiting to screw crap up.
Religion seeks out conflict.
I reject your reality and substitute my own!

If I understand you right you are gonna trying to accomplish something like those scientology dudes.
Yes you are correct, that in a hopeless situation we do look for any form of support, even an imaginary one, just like a child has an imaginary friend while growing up, society too had several imaginary friends, but just like the child has to grow up, we too have to grow up, and believe it or not, it is way past our time to act like adults. So at this point, there is no time for babytalk, those of us who still pretend to be babies, need to be hit with the hammer of reality. Religion is another form of tribalism, which it would seem we evolved with. It's not like early humans sat around and realized that things were too quiet so they'd better start a religion and get to beating each other up. Religion may have started as a way of explaining the unknown and pretending to find a measure of control over it, and developed into a way of strengthening cultural and communal ties. I don't believe that it made us violent; it just provided one more outlet for justifying violence.
"Well, evolution is a theory. It is also a fact. And facts and theories are different things, not rungs in a hierarchy of increasing certainty. Facts are the world's data. Theories are structures of ideas that explain and interpret facts. Facts don't go away when scientists debate rival theories to explain them. Einstein's theory of gravitation replaced Newton's in this century, but apples didn't suspend themselves in midair, pending the outcome. And humans evolved from ape- like ancestors whether they did so by Darwin's proposed mechanism or by some other yet to be discovered."
