You deserve it.
I'm an atheist, but I sure know what catholicism is about. This one isn't what he claims to be.

He was "fun".
For me he sounds like an evengelical playing catholic.
I was born and raised Catholic and immigrated to Canada when I was 21. I am from van Gogh country very close to Belgium, but does that really matter much?
Then let me add that the first protestant I have even known to meet was here in Canada. He asked me what I was and I told him that I was Catholic. He said, yes I know but are you Christian? and I said huh? as I had never heard that asked before.

I'm not sure he was fun, but I was curious on his beliefs for they were very odd and unique. That is until he announced he was just full of crap and an arrogant ass. If he didn't get banned for trolling then I'm sure his personality would have finished the job not long after.

But I never asked you to be nice to me, did I?
I am just trying to be polite and answer questions. that's all.

Maybe you do and maybe you just think you do. I am not here to preach and just answered the question in which I said to be Catholic.
I have not been in our local church for maybe 20 years but will go with my grand children when I am there. So I am not anti-Catholic or anti-anything, and live my life as I see fit.
It is just philosophy for me and I love to write.

Neither I nor any other atheist needs to have been a theist beforehand in order to have reached our present position, if that's what you're trying to argue. All that is required to adopt the stance of identifying as atheist is the existence of theists. You hold a set of beliefs; I happen not to share them. It really doesn't get more complicated than that.
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist. This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair. Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second. That means there's a situation vacant.'

Don't worry about theist and atheist. I accept that atheism can be just a fear of America's culture influence by religion, from a distance even
and I would agree with you on this.
And I know, but as soon as you say that if we do not sin Jesus died for nothing you already tell me that he died for our sin and that is totally protestant.
As I understand it he died for the sins of his world and told us to do the same for the sins of our world, by his famous "follow me" and die to them just as he did to his.
To take this one step further please understand that Matthew and Mark's Jesus did that too, but he went back to Galilee again for likely another 40 years [to fry some more] and died there nonetheless (and maybe he sung "patient endurance" songs already then).
So my point here now is that when Jesus ascended to heaven also hell came crashing down and that is what Matthew and Mark are all about.
To be free from sin is to be free from religion and its slavery to righteousness while in absence of our unity within, and therefore there can be no such thing as a Christian religion, is what my argument would be on this.

And you know what? Catholicism is the same all over the world with the only difference that Mary is always local because she is the one who meets us at the gate of purgatory and leads us home from there.
So the basic mechanics are Universal and is local in our own life within every intelligent effort that we make, because each and every primary was incipient from her and therefore is subliminally ours as if our life is and always was predestined by her.
Not to make this complicated but there is a Buddhist poem on this called " A River Merchants Wife: A Letter" and that poem tells us how and why the water on which we float our life house-boat is hers and only hers (by Li Po).

You're propagating a so called buffet religion. Picking elements from everything crossing your mind and presenting it here, on an atheist board of all places.
Catholic doctrine says this about Jesus death: All this He endured willingly for our salvation.
You also ignored the pope quote I posted eralier where he, in one sentence, numerously mentioned the word christianity in connection with Catholic faith. Catholicism is christian, to claim otherwise is taking a page from the evangelist book, who deny the Catholics the status of real christians.
See, what you're doing here? You call yourself Catholic and don't even understand the basics of what that means. Not that I have a real problem with that, since it doesn't matter to me if you believe in Donald Duck. But you're going around, throwing some unrelated bits and pieces around and hope that someone picks up on the garbage.

What is Poe?

Someone playing on being a christian while in truth he's something entirely different. Mostly used for undercover atheists. Not that much different from a troll.

It is a reference to Poe's Law, which states that a parody of an extreme position cannot be easily distinguished from the real thing. It means that he believes that you're trying to put one over on us.
"Well, evolution is a theory. It is also a fact. And facts and theories are different things, not rungs in a hierarchy of increasing certainty. Facts are the world's data. Theories are structures of ideas that explain and interpret facts. Facts don't go away when scientists debate rival theories to explain them. Einstein's theory of gravitation replaced Newton's in this century, but apples didn't suspend themselves in midair, pending the outcome. And humans evolved from ape- like ancestors whether they did so by Darwin's proposed mechanism or by some other yet to be discovered."
-Stephen Jay Gould
