We were told stories, I suppose, but were never asked to believe any of that.
So why did you wave a false flag when coming here? It's a sure ticket to be called a bullshitter. And an obvious one from post one I may add.

Pardon me? I don't recall ever saying anything like this. Whoever you're agreeing with appears to be stuffed with straw. It certainly isn't me; this is the second time you've ascribed a position onto me that I never claimed to hold. You don't get a third.
As for the Jesus flippancy in my signature, I don't even accept your godboy existed; neither as an historical figure and certainly not as a pseudo-intellectual wizard who could do cheap party tricks but didn't know the difference between mental illness and demons. So whatever my sig told you was in your head, not mine. Please keep it there instead of projecting it onto me.
Sorry sir, but if you deny theism as atheist and do not know what theism is it would follow that you do not agree with it from a distance.
The sin concept is just a mental construct that is created by the law of religion and accordingly can only be formed in the mind of so called believers. Therefore then only so called believers can be set free from the yoke of slavery and sin.
And Jesus is not my godboy because I have already asked here who he was if Christ was said to be born, and I may have added that Catholics do not worship Jesus, and therefore called it protestant theology. And then yes, I added that Catholics do know Jesus as a stepping and just left him hanging there.

False flag? I am Catholic and actually was in church this Sunday.
Religious instruction till Grade six is called indoctrination, and that is where it ends. This would be prior to the age of reason, I suppose.

That's an absolute lie! And I'd appreciate it if you would give me the name of that Catholic church.
Never, EVER have I witnessed that in a Catholic church. Protestant church? YES!
(December 27, 2014 at 4:46 pm)abaris Wrote: Right, care to tell me, where you get your wisdom from? Honestly you sound fake, since everything you said so far in this thread isn't based on catholic dogma or doctrine. The above is the most peculiar claim no catholic that I know of would ever make.
Also there's the bible not being important, Jesus being a mere man and not the son of god, catholicism not being christian. Everything at odds with catholic believes.
So either you follow the most peculiar brand of catholicism not accepted by the Vatican or you're simply something different. Agreed. I've never seen this kind of distortion from a true Catholic or Christian.
My theory is that someone is "bored"..... but I wouldn't say that someone was a Christian or a Catholic. At least not in a truthful sense.
I made it clear that where I am from everyone was Catholic and we just did what Catholics do.
The Vatican, dogma, doctrine? None of that was never a part of our discussion, nor was the bible ever any part of it. We did not even have a bible nor a NT as separate book.
And I never wrote that Jesus was a 'mere man' but volunteered that he is meant to be agency in the course of our own life.

Yes just as the word G-d is never part of a Judaism so is the word Christ--n never part of Catholicism.
Catholics are sinners and have the confessionals to prove that and readily admit that they are not saved-sinners because salvation is not part of the act (with never an altar call made or even a hint made towards that end).
At least not in the church that I know, and therefore I was shocked to hear someone ask if I was a Christian.

The argument exists that eternal life belongs to the mythology, which must be true if we as humans are temporal beings. If then Rome is home for NT people it would follow that all roads lead to Rome.

@ Lambert
Like it or not, a christian is one who believes in christ. You, being catholic, must believe in christ (it goes with the territory), therefore you are a christian.
A theist is one that believes in a god or gods. You are a catholic and catholics believe in god, therefore you are a theist.
Like it or not, the facts remain the same. You are a christian theist.
You make people miserable and there's nothing they can do about it, just like god.

Trying to wrap my head around your Catholicism... but I am unable to. You sound very confused. You are [not] putting up much truth, or fact... just a load of conjecture based on opinion.
You cannot speak for all Catholics. Not even a few from my perspective.
You are about division. That is not the work of God.

Sure, if that is what you say, but let me add that Christ never said anything for me to believe because Jesus was the spokesperson in the Gospels. I'll be a theist if you say but I personally object to you calling me a Christian.
Sry, am posting while doing other things, and of course you can call me anything but if I claim that Catholics are not Christian I cannot be a Christian as Catholic.
My point here then is that we cannot follow Christ if he was not the speaker in the Gospels, and so then, how can we believe in him, or even follow him?

There is really nothing different from a christian and a catholic. Except Catholics get the extra benefits and a holier than holy spokesman of god the pope.

Lambert Wrote:I'll be a theist if you say but I personally object to you calling me a Christian. Hey, it is what it is. I do not know what branch, sect, cult, whatever, of catholicism you practice, but I was raised a catholic and though I never adopted or believed any of that superstitious bullshit, I was still required to attend catechism for 13 years of my life and I have never heard of this crap you have come up with.
Deal with it, if you are a catholic, then you are a christian and a theist.

It's not my job as an atheist to deny theism. It's the theist's to demonstrate the validity of their position. I do know what theism is and accept it as a position, though I do not share it.
There is no "-ism" to atheism. It is a single response to a single issue, that of theistic claims. Hence, "not theism".
Now could you please explain what "atheism can be just a fear of America's culture influence by religion" means and how you arrived at that from anything I or anyone said?
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist. This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair. Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second. That means there's a situation vacant.'
